We like a classic Mallorcan finca – the wood beams, the rustic stonework, the lushly planted grounds: we can’t get enough. But, as cosmopolitan types, we also appreciate statement furnishings that don’t sit quietly in the corner. Take a bow, Finca Sa Torre, a five-bedroom luxury villa on the Balearic isle’s peaceful east coast, which has barrow-loads of country charm alongside striking design choices: tree-trunk tables, driftwood chairs, an abstract mural. There’s a garden-set pool, too – and a swing-chair to bounce gleefully in, and it’s welcoming to guests of all ages. Trust us, this casa es su holiday casa

First Glance

  • The villa’s natural stone walls, wood beams and flagstone floors make it feel like a traditional finca, but mod murals, artful driftwood and cane furnishings bring it bang up-to-date.
  • The villa’s 360sq m in size and sleeps up to 10 people.
  • The living room has an exposed stone wall and decorative fireplace, wooden beams and an original archway that’s been filled in. Decor is neutral, but unique design touches – tree-trunk coffee-tables, a swing chair and modern vases in wood and pottery – keep it chic. There are several soft sofas and a desk, too.
  • The open-plan kitchen has stone worktops and wood accents, and filtered water on-tap. If you want to give rustic Spanish cuisine a try, it’s fully-equipped, with an oven, hob and other cookware.
  • A dining area has a large wooden table with seating for up to 10. There are French or sliding doors on three sides of the space, leading out to the pool deck and terrace, and overlooking the garden’s greenery.
  • Laundry room with a washer-dryer.

  • A stone terrace has three deckchairs and sunloungers, parasols and one shaded day-bed for guests to chill out on.
  • There's a hot tub at the far corner of the pool terrace.
  • There’s no pool-fencing, so parents will need to watch little ones.

Grounds

  • The beautifully landscaped grounds have trim lawns and slender decorative trees. They’re extensive, too, merging with open fields.
  • Just beyond the interior dining room is an alfresco dining area with a summer kitchen.
  • There’s a purpose-built charcoal or wood barbecue in the summer kitchen.
  • A small vegetable plot.
  • Bocce ball court.
  • There’s shaded parking for up to three cars and more space in an open-air carpark.

Location

  • The villa is located in the countryside along the south-east coast, within private grounds. It’s set back from the coast, but from the first floor you can spy the sea. The old road to Mondrago runs alongside the property borders, but there’s minimal outside noise.
  • S’Alqueria Blanca is a small town a four-minute drive from the villa; it has a few restaurants and bars, a plaza and church and some shops for essentials. Portopetro is a fishing village between Mondrago Natural Park and Cala d’Or which has renowned eateries and laidback bars with harbour views.
  • Beaches S’Amarador and Mondrago are the closest, both on the fringes of Mondrago Natural Park, a five-to-10-minute drive away. Both are attractive spots with white sands curved around turquoise waters, and S’Amarador’s calm, shallow waters make it family-friendly.
