Stewart Russell
Spacecraft crusader
Born in Scotland, having studied fine art in England and Canada, Stewart began working with textiles in 1984, setting up his first print studio with Donna O’Brien in Sri Lanka for world-renowned weaver Barbara Sansoni. In 2000 they moved from London – where he was director of London Printworks, a Brixton-based arts organisation – to Melbourne to establish Spacecraft, a textile studio designed to produce men’s and women’s fashion and to collaborate with contemporary artists.
