Rustic B&B Casa San Ruffino’s setting is straight out of a storybook: high on a hill, surrounded by mediaeval hamlets, frozen-in-time farms and sweeping valleys, and inside at this former farmhouse made good, it’s just as magic.

• Children Cots are free; extra beds cost €20 for one child, and an extra €10 for another, with room for up to two. Children over 12 must have their own room.
• Also There’s a two-night minimum stay during July and September; three nights in August. There’s no lounge, but if it’s wet and rainy, the breakfast room doubles as a den, equipped with boardgames.

  None, just a simple breakfast room with wooden tables, beams on the ceiling and a big French door at the end. Feast on fruit salad, freshly baked bread and delicious banana loaf, washed down with whatever flavour of smoothie you fancy.

• Dress code Showcase the Italian labels picked up at the Sant'Elipidio a Mare designer outlet.
• Top table It’s brightest and breeziest by the French door, but toastiest by the fireplace.
• Last orders Breakfast is served until 10.30am.
