Classic country casa

Vineyard-lined Tuscan estate

Formerly the home of a Tuscan farming family, Villa Gauggiole’s design nods to its centuries-old heritage: beamed ceilings, rough-stone walls and tiled floors are relics of its humble beginnings. Founders Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo – inheritors of the luxury Italian shoe dynasty – have brought the villa up to date with modern fixtures and fittings, from the fully-kitted-out kitchen, to the heated infinity pool. On lazy days, settle in a tartan armchair by the living room fire, or stretch out on a padded sunlounger in the lavender-scented gardens. Spend evenings alfresco on one of the three pergola-shaded terraces, and admire the vineyard-populated views of Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia.

First Glance

  • This authentically renovated Tuscan farmhouse (580sq m) is spread over two floors; in the expansive gardens, there’s also a fully-furnished guest-house and pool house.
  • On the ground floor in the main house, there’s a spacious living room with sofas, armchairs and a large, marble fireplace. Floor-to-ceiling French windows make the room feel light and airy.
  • Archways from the living room lead through to a dining area, furnished with a long wooden table and linen-covered chairs.
  • The kitchen – also on the ground floor – is a bright, cosy space, with wooden cabinets and state-of-the-art appliances. These include a steel cooker and grill, matching pots and pans, a microwave, crockery and cutlery. The kitchen also has a washing machine and a Nespresso coffee-machine.
  • Two powder rooms are also situated on the ground floor.
  • The pool house (59sq m) has a cosy living room, furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs grouped around a fireplace. There’s also a kitchenette, and a bathroom with a shower and Ferragamo bath products.

Villas rented during this period will have a delivery of welcome groceries; two hours’ daily housekeeping; breakfast cooked in the villa (on request and for an extra charge); concierge service between 9am and 5pm; free newspaper app for Android and Apple devices; free WiFi and 24-hour security. • The double bedroom has a king-size, four-poster bed dressed in pale-green linens; both the bed and the loveseat at its foot are strewn with white-and-green cushions. A green-patterned chaise longue sits in the corner; there’s also a walk-in wardrobe.
