Rates are all-inclusive, covering the crew of 10 including a chef, diving instructor and masseur; transfers to and from the boat; all land and water-based activities; all your food and drinks; and much more.
Untold hours were spent on the yachts beautiful looks, but the owners made safety the top priority. The engines, machinery and other technical parts are all top-of-the-range and sourced from Miami, chosen only after they spent an entire year visiting suppliers. Sequoia is also built to the rigorous US Coast Guard Safety Standards, which makes it unique among yachts in Indonesia.

Our favourite rooms
Sequoia is only available for exclusive charters, so it really comes down to who gets which room. All three are clad in teak, have ensuite bathrooms with Caesarstone sinks and are decked with Indonesian-themed artwork. The Island Suite has twin sinks and a spacious bathroom area; the Sky Suite is on the upper deck, putting you closer to the loungers. The Ocean Suite can be set up as twins, making it ideal for little Smiths.
There’s no pool onboard, but you hardly need one when you’re surrounded by glittering ocean.
There’s a dedicated masseur onboard, ready to work their magic at a time and place of your choosing: on deck, beneath the palms on a nearby beach, you name it.
The yacht lends itself to an active lifestyle, so you’ll need light, casual gear that you can hike, paddle and wade in.
The cabins are reached by spiral staircases, so the boat’s not suited to wheelchair users.
All ages are welcome onboard. There’s plenty to keep little Smiths occupied, including diving; snorkelling; paddle boarding; kayaking; tubing and more. The chef will happily customise meals to suit picky eaters.
Designed to have a minimal impact on the environment, Sequoia has low-emission engines; a water filtration system that turns seawater into drinking water; and eco-friendly bath products on board. Most of the ingredients used in the food are organic, seasonal and locally-sourced.
You can dine at the table in the great room, on the sky deck, or on one of the many islands you’ll pass on your journey.
It’s entirely up to you – there’s no need to stand on ceremony here. Whatever you choose, pack a light scarf for any breezy evenings.
Chef Wayan Sudarsana will whip up whatever you fancy for breakfast, be it pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict or a tropical fruit platter. Lunch and dinner are a three-course affair, made with the best organic produce he can get his hands on. The cuisine is mostly Indonesian, so there’s plenty outstanding seafood, fragrant curries and fruity desserts, but as with most things on Sequoia, you can edit the menu to your heart’s desire. Kids will love Sudarsana’s thin-crust pizzas, homemade blueberry ice cream and chocolate lava cake.
There’s a small bar area in the great room, but you can also just tell the butler what you want and he’ll brings the drinks to you. Alongside beer, wine and cocktails, he can whip up fresh coconut drinks and freshly-squeezed tropical juices at any time of day. There’s also gourmet coffee and a wide selection of teas onboard.
You can breakfast from 7am and dine until 10pm, but it’s not like you’ll have anyone shooing you off to your cabin if you overshoot a little.
Drinks, snacks and meals can be brought to you anywhere on the boat.

Sequoia sails through the Raja Ampat islands from November to March; in Kaimana and Fak Fak from January to March; Solor Alor from June to September; Komodo from June to September; and in the Banda Islands in October.
The airport you fly into will depend on where you’re sailing. If it’s Raja Ampat, you’ll arrive at Sorong; if you’re sailing the East Flores region, it’ll be Maumere or Alor. If you’re heading to Komodo, you’ll touch down at either Bima or Labuan Bajo. If you're setting sail from Kaimana, you'll land at its eponymous airport.
Transfers from the airport to the yacht are included in your rate, so there’s no need to do any driving yourself.
Worth getting out of bed for
The yacht’s owners envisioned the experience as a water safari, including a host of activities that let you get up close to the extraordinary landscapes and wildlife in the Coral Triangle. The region’s reefs offer world-class scuba diving, and with a padi-certified instructor and dive master onboard, you couldn’t ask for a better time or place to learn. Once you’re qualified, you’ll have access to a visual wonderworld: the ocean here is teeming with weird and wonderful sea life, which often assumes bizarre shapes and vibrant colours. There’s specialist kids' gear too, so little Smith's can get in on the action. Some of the other water-based activities include snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding and water skiing. There’s plenty of opportunity for cultural immersion, too, as you’ll be taken to remote islands where you can hike up volcanoes, go bird-watching and browse markets.
Your chef will prepare all your meals for you, so you won't be eating out (and with the food as good as it is, you probably wouldn’t want to anyway). What you can change is the setting, weighing anchor in a different lagoon each day, then dining in either the great room or on the sky deck, where you’ll be bathed in the light of the setting sun. The crew can also set up a table on a beach or lagoon of your choosing.

Even in the rarified world of luxury yachts, Sequoia is a real head-turner. Bypassing the plastic-fantastic look that dominates harbours today, this 26-metre pleasure craft was built entirely of Indonesian teak and ironwood, all of it shaped by the Bugis boatbuilders of Tana Beru, who’ve produced traditional watercraft for hundreds of years. A true labour of love, she took four-and-a-half years of intense work to complete, but the moment you lay eyes on her smooth decks and arching hull, you know it was worthwhile. Everywhere you look, your eyes are met by warm-toned wood, all of it beautifully varnished to the point where the sun and moonlight glances off its curves. In the cabins, the walls are decked with antique maps of Indonesian islands, and the crew will even unfurl sails when the breeze picks up, making you feel like a bona-fide explorer heading off to chart the territory.
