Lying to the south of the Flores Sea, the island of Komodo is the ancestral home of the mighty komodo dragon, left to grow to vast sizes on these far-flung shores. Once you’ve set sail, you’ll first make landfall on Sangeang island, passing the Sangeang Api volcano on the way, which is often backlit by pinkish clouds at sunset. The next four days will be spent working through Banta, Lawa Laut and Rinca islands, all home to world-class dive sites, untouched shores and lush, hilly interiors. Day six and seven are on Komodo itself, an island of wild contrasts, with rugged mountains, savannah and one of the world’s few pink beaches.
Guests have exclusive use of Sequoia, which has three bedrooms made from teak and ironwood. Accessed by a miniature spiral staircase, the (master) Island Suite has a hand-carved king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom in which the floor, twin sinks and walk-in shower are made of solid Caesarstone. The Island and Ocean Suites each have a handmade king-size bed (twins are available) and an ensuite bathroom with a Caesarstone sink and walk-in shower. All three also have free WiFi; a flatscreen TV; Marshall speaker; tea- and coffee-making kit; free bottled water and Bathe bath products.
