Setting

Beats by the beach

Like a remix of a classic summer hit, the Costa del Sol gets a seductive new spin at Mett Hotel & Beach Resort Marbella. The hook remains the same – soft golden sands, azure sea and sun – but the luxury has been amped up and the BPM brought down. Days follow a rhythm so leisurely it edges on decadence; make time for a facial and a few laps of the palatial pool, then retreat to your private cabana for a snooze. DJ sets and mod-Med dining draw a cool crowd for dinner, but there’s no till-dawn MO, with revels and rest prized equally.

Hotel closed

The hotel is open annually between March and November.

At the hotel

Public beach, beach club, spa, and free WiFi throughout. In rooms: TV, plug adaptors, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making kit, minibar, free bottled water, beach bag and bespoke Botanyc bath products.

Our favourite rooms

Swing for the Seascape Suite, and you’ll have bags of space and brilliant Med views from your private pool and terrace.

Poolside

The beach club’s heated outdoor pool is blessed with pin-up good looks – swaying palms, striped parasols and knockout sea views. There’s a sangria-slinging bar and a live soundtrack of low-key beats if you’re feeling sociable, but coy couples can always retreat to a private cabana. The pool is open daily from 10am to 8pm.

Spa

Made for me-time, the Moi Spa has a menu of massages, facials and wellness treatments using Natura Bissé products rich with botanical extracts and minerals sourced from the sea. The spa is open from 11am to 7pm. There’s also a heated indoor pool and a 24-hour fitness centre with Technogym equipment.

Packing tips

Bring tennis kit if you fancy hitting the nearby courts – plus, if you’re lured off course by the siren song of the beach club, a pleated skirt works just as well as a poolside serve.

Also

The hotel can arrange one free green fee a stay for nearby Guadalmina Golf Club.

Pet‐friendly

Four-legged pals are welcome in all room types, but not the hotel’s communal spaces. See more pet-friendly hotels in Marbella.

Children

Teens are welcome, but this is primarily a grown-up getaway.

Sustainability efforts

A bevy of eco measures has earned Mett Hotel Marbella BREEAM certification. The resort uses recycled packaging, and bamboo keycards in place of plastic. Rooms and restaurants are single-use plastic-free, and in the kitchens, a zero-kilometre approach to sourcing puts an emphasis on local, organic produce.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Dine alfresco for steps-from-the-Med views set to easygoing beats.

Dress Code

Cherry-pick the best of Mediterranean beach style – Ancient Greek sandals, Fendi shades and a lace cover-up from Palomo, perhaps.

Hotel restaurant

Drawing inspiration from the Aegean coast, Ammos serves sunny Greek staples like souvlaki, tzatziki-dipped pitta and fresh seafood orzo against sparkling sea views. Isola pulls on the flavours of Rome and southern Italy, pairing homemade pasta and pinsa with fine Italian wines. A seductive tapas menu spotlights locally sourced produce at El Bar de Lola – the payoyo cheese croquetas will make a conquest of the most ardently carb-avoidant. And at Azure, punctuate your beach to pool to private cabana rotation with elegant pan-Asian plates.

Hotel bar

Acquire an always-in-style summer accessory – a fruit-spiked cocktail or frosty glass of Spanish white – at the Azure Pool Bar, where live DJs set the breezy, laidback tone.

Last orders

Breakfast is served at Isola from 7.30am to 10.30am, and dinner from 7.30pm to 11pm. Ammos serves lunch from 1pm to 4pm, dinner from 7.30pm to 11pm. El Bar de Lola is open from 7.30pm to 11pm, and Azure Pool Bar pours from noon to 8pm.

Room service

There’s 24-hour room service, for when it’s an under-the-covers sort of day.

Worth getting out of bed for

The Málaga Coastal Path is a romantic walkway stretching along almost 200km of the Andalucian coast, although we’d stick to a less ambitious stroll towards Estepona. The hotel can help you plot a pulse-raising route along the Caminito del Rey, an aerial walkway clinging dramatically to the walls of a dizzying gorge. For added adrenalin, ask about arranging a pedal-to-the-metal adventure at Circuito Ascari motorsports club. And for gentler kicks, the concierge can reserve a tennis or padel court at Villa Padierna Racquet Club.

Local restaurants

Set in a centuries-old house in Estepona’s cobblestoned old town, La Casa del Rey is an atmospheric wine bar and restaurant worth braving the outside-your-cabana world for. Working with the finest local produce, chef David Teijido crafts a seasonal menu of moreish pintxos and tostas, and the 120-strong cellar is expertly overseen by sommelier Jesús Vilchez. After a foray into Marbella, feast on fresh-caught Andalusian seafood like tuna carpaccio, black salt-crusted sea bass and smoked sardines with ajoblanco at lively modern spot Lobito del Mar.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from this sun-kissed hotel on the Costa del Sol and unpacked their holiday paperbacks and Hunza G bikini, a full account of their beachfront break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Mett Hotel & Beach Resort Marbella…

A Midsummer Night’s Dream pulled from Chaucer, Mo Money Mo Problems sampled Diana Ross. Mett Hotel & Beach Resort Marbella follows the same blueprint as Biggie and the Bard – a little outside inspiration can solidify a summer hit. The setting, steps from the sand between Marbella and Estepona, is as classically “summer in Spain” as an ice-cold tinto de verano. Plates of Andalucian tapas and pitchers of sangria sail out from behind sea-salt-scented bars. But beyond that, the hotel cherry-picks from across the globe. Two restaurants serve nonna-impressing pasta and Cyclades-inspired seafood. Draping yourself daiquiri-in-hand by the glossy pool – shaded by towering palms and soundtracked by globetrotting guest DJ sets – it’ll come as no surprise to learn that Azure Beach Club’s brand of glamour was honed on the jet-set-drawing JBR in Dubai. The spa, too, draws on global standards, meeting the universal bar for swoon-worthy dates – detoxifying massages à deux, swiftly undone with middle-of-the-day cocktails. Mett Hotel might dabble in international influences, but drawing the curtains of your private cabana, there’s little chance for pillow talk to get lost in translation.
