Where you'll go
Porto native João will pick you up from Régua station and drive you to a spectacular viewpoint of the Unesco-protected terraced vineyards and flowing Douro River. Then, you’ll be ready to explore this wine-soaked wonderland, visiting a handful of quintas (wine estates), strolling through the vines, meeting the makers and finding the most picturesque perches for tastings. Lunch at a traditional tasca in the town of Pinhão is included – you’ll sample rustic delicacies, seafood and, you guessed it, more wine.
What you'll sample
Before the tour, you’ll fill out a questionnaire so João can gauge your knowledge of wine – whether you’re a true connoisseur seeking out small, family-run estates or a novice in need of a dummy’s guide to grapes, the day will be tailored to you. As well as tasting some of the valley’s finest tawny treasure, you’ll also learn about the history of the region (some of these ancient vines were planted back in the Bronze Age) and have a chance to ask all your burning viticulture questions. João will guide you away from the crowds and let you into the secrets of these priceless cellars.
Experience location
If you’re coming by train, João will pick you up at Régua station; if you’re staying in the Douro Valley, he’ll fetch you from your hotel. We’ll send you the full details in your confirmation.
