Versailles: corridors and courtiers

Versailles: corridors and courtiers

Skip the queues (let them eat cake) and see the seat of the Sun King in all its splendour.

You have to admire the absolutists – they never did things by halves. But Versailles’ colossal corridors and countless rooms (a cool 700 last time we counted) can be difficult to navigate on your own. Luckily, your Paris-based insider is on hand to guide you through the gilded galleries and regale you with snippets of royal scandal.

Where you'll go
You’ll delve into the fascinating history of France’s most notorious palace on this insider-led tour of Versailles. After being chauffeured in air-conditioned style from your hotel (you’ll be dropped off at the end of the tour, too), you’ll head straight to the front of the queue and sweep into the home of kings and queens, courtiers and mistresses to learn about the rollicking royal life of King Louis XIV and his infamous descendants. Spoiler alert: they came to quite a sticky end.
What you'll see
You’ll take in the Baroque majesty of the Hall of Mirrors, the lavish reception rooms and the seemingly endless formal gardens and fountains while your expert guide brings the palace to life with tales of mistresses, masked balls and muskets at dawn. For an extra fee, you can tailor your day to include VIP extras: a visit to the royal apartments, a tour of Marie Antoinette’s residence at Petit Trianon or a teen-friendly bicyle ride through the grounds.
Experience location
Your guide and chauffeur will collect you from and return you to your hotel; we’ll send you the full details in your confirmation.
