Where you'll go
You’ll start at Florence’s historic botanical garden for a brief history on the uses of plants, their medicinal properties and the inspiration Karl and Margherita have found in the natural environment. Afterwards, you’ll stroll to Margherita’s family’s 16th-century palazzo – designed by Raphael, naturally – where you’ll tour the gardens before settling into the orchid greenhouse that’s home to Margherita’s beautiful bohemian atelier. There, Karl and Margherita will guide you in their handmade textile techniques and you’ll try your hand yourself.
What you'll learn
You’ll learn about the history of plants – their uses in medicines, food, art and textiles – as you tour two fragrant Florentine gardens. Then, during your hands-on textile-making session, you’ll learn about all-natural dye methods – screen printing, stencilling, block printing and hand painting. You’ll choose a material and get creative, experimenting with techniques and colours; if you’re feeling particularly inspired, Margherita and Karl can help you create original stamps and stencils for a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Experience location
You will be meeting Margherita Pandolfini and Karl Jorns outside the Giardino dei Semplici; we’ll send you the details in your confirmation.
