When to go

Dakhla gets around 300 windy days a year – which is what most people come for – but December and January are the least blustery.

Getting there

  • Planes

If you’re departing from Paris, Casablanca, Agadir and Gran Canaria, you can fly direct to Dakhla’s Airport. If not you’ll need to connect.
  • Automobiles

With a coastal highway running pretty much straight down to Dakhla, and various gas stations and campsites to pause at along the way, driving to Dakhla is more straightforward than you might think, but you’ll need all paperwork in order and photocopies of your passport to hand out at checkpoints along the way. A four-wheel drive is the best mode of transport around these parts. But journeys are long and require a lot of planning ahead, so you may find flying less of a faff.
