Still free from tourist herds, Catania impresses year round. Beaches are at their emptiest and balmiest during June and September.
Getting there
Planes
Fly direct into Catania’s international airport from most European hubs, including London, Paris and Barcelona.
Trains
Though their scheduling can be a little temperamental, trains are a great way to see neighbouring Sicilian towns. Trenitalia runs services between Catania, Messina, Palermo, Taormina and Syracuse.
Automobiles
A car isn’t essential as the city is walkable, but if you’re hoping to explore further afield then the airport has plenty of hire booths.
