When to go

Los Santos has a lengthy rainy season (from May to November), making January to mid-May the best times to visit – April is a prime Pacific surfing month. If you visit in February, be sure to align your stay with Las Tablas’s traditional four-day carnival.

Getting there

• Planes

  You can either fly into Panama City’s main airport, Tocumen, and make a road trip of the six-hour coastal journey down to Los Santos Province; or fly into Scarlett Martinez International Airport, just under a four-hour drive from Los Santos.

• Automobiles

  You’re unlikely to need one here, as most of your days are spent barefoot on the beach; but if you’d like the option of exploring further afield, there are plenty of car rentals at both airports and driving is fairly safe (as long as you’re patient).
