When to go

If you’re looking to explore the Hudson Valley’s many hiking trails or wander along Warren Street without worrying about freezing, then the summer months are your best bet. For those who’d rather settle into the cosy small-town feel that accompanies New York’s snowy winters, then visit during December and January.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into New York’s JFK airport, where you can rent a car and drive for around two hours to the Hudson Valley, or hop in a cab to Grand Central Station and catch a train through the region to Poughkeepsie, with a chance to stop at Beacon. If you’re headed to Hudson town, ask your cab to drop you off at Penn Station, where you can get a direct train.
  • Trains

Hop on a two-hour train from New York City’s Penn Station directly to Hudson Amtrak Station, or take the Metro-North railroad from Grand Central Station along the Hudson River directly to Beacon.
  • Automobiles

Rent a car from JFK and escape the grid-locked traffic of New York City for the vast open roads of Upstate Hudson Valley.
