December to May, when you won’t encounter tropical downpours, are the most popular months; January and February tend to be quieter.
Getting there
Planes
Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport in Puerto Vallarta is the closest to San Pancho, just over an hour’s drive away. Direct flights arrive from major cities in Mexico, the United States and Canada, but those travelling from further afield may need to stopover in the States or catch a connecting flight in Mexico City (around a 90-minute journey).
Automobiles
Hire a four-wheel drive if you plan to go further inland or crawl along the coast. Self-driving isn’t recommended as roads can be treacherous in places and the uninitiated might feel out of their depth, but you can arrange for a local driver to confidently ferry you around.
