Luxury holidays in Bukit Peninsula

Magnificent cliffs and white-sand beaches dot the coastline of this palm-covered promontory. Surfers long ago discovered the epic breaks at Uluwatu and Padang Padang, and now it’s your turn. With exceptional oceanside resorts springing up along the Bukit’s dramatic southernmost shores, it’s the ideal location for swimming, sailing and diving. Funiculars, or steep staircases for the more adventurous, deliver pampered campers straight onto bijou beaches, while sybarites enjoy massages in sleek villas that cling to the craggy overhang.

When to go

The days are bright and beautiful from July to September, but August is Bali’s peak holiday season, so best avoided if you value peace and solitude.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (www.baliairport.com), a 30-minute drive north of Jimbaran Bay and the Bukit Peninsula.
  • Boats

High-speed ferries from neighbouring Lombok and the Gili islands connect to Benoa Harbour, just north of Nusa Dua on the Bukit Peninsula.
  • Automobiles

You can rent a car at the airport for around US$25 a day, but rustic Bukit roads can be rough, and rules non-existent. By far the easiest way to get to your hotel is to organise a transfer with the concierge.
