Luxury holidays in Mumbai

As an introduction to India, massive Mumbai can be overwhelming, but once you get adjusted to the frenetic pace, you’ll soon be swept up in the city’s fascinating history, eclectic culture and cosmopolitan elegance. Visit to the colossal Raj-era structure the Gateway of India, take a boat to the Unesco-approved Elephanta caves, check out the cool coastal suburb of Bandra for lungfuls of fresh sea air or marvel at Dhobi Ghat, the ‘human laundromat’.

When to go

The best time to visit is between November and March, when the weather is mild and pleasant. We’d avoid June to September, muggy monsoon months with soaring temperatures and havoc-wreaking floods. Prices will be higher during festivals and holidays (like Diwali, Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi), so double-check dates before you go.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport. If you’re flying out, leave plenty of time to get to the airport – Mumbai’s mad traffic means it can take over an hour by taxi to get there.
  • Automobiles

Just shout ‘auto!’ to hail one of the ever-present black and yellow taxis or rickshaws.
