The Guestbook

The hotel itself is amazing, especially for the price, and its location means you're only a short walk or tube ride to central London. However, I would advise people to look twice at the breakfast menu: I don't know if it changes at weekends but we were there on a Sunday morning and the £15 Continental buffet (plus £4 for a hot dish) didn't reflect what we got. The bacon and fried duck egg I ordered turned out to be pork belly and duck egg and Mrs Smith ordered poached eggs with chorizo and potato that came loaded with peanuts, of which there wasn't a single mention on the menu. When we mentioned to the gentleman running breakfast that morning that not mentioning the peanuts in the dish was a little risky, he replied by stating it was the customer's duty to notify the team about their allergies. So in short, get breakfast somewhere else would be our recommendation.

The Feature Room was definitely worth the extra money – we loved the room. We went to Shoreditch which wasn't far in a cab but there are plenty of delis around the hotel. As we had such a lovely room we got a bottle of wine and some various meats and cheeses and headed back for a quiet night in.

A lovely hotel with very stylish furniture and finishing. The bar and restaurant are great spots to spend a special evening at and the staff are very helpfull and caring.

I cannot recommend the Corner Room restaurant enough. The food is exceptional value for the price and quality of the dishes, which use highly inventive ingredients. There is a 'no reservations' policy so be sure to get there by 6.30 on a Fri/Sat night if you want a table as it fills up very fast and it's a small room. It also gets busy at breakfast so try to get down before 10am. We had the pool all to ourselves when we arrived at 4pm on the Saturday afternoon which as a good thing as it is quite small and just perfect for two. Our only disapointment was that the 'Tea Lady' was fully booked. Be warned. If you want a visit be sure to ring at 6pm on the dot and book i'm not sure if you can make a booking before 6 as the information supplied in the room isn't very clear. Also do be sure to visit the VA Museum of Childhood. It's free and just a minute's walk from the hotel. We played a game of snakes and ladders and reminiced over the 1980s toys of our past. It's not a huge place so you can easily just pop in for an hour.

We stayed in a two-bed exec apartment and can't rate it highly enough. The bar is fabulous and the barman will happily discuss and invent cocktails to suit your taste.

The hotel and apartments were fantastic. A beautiful building that has been transformed into one of the best hotels I have stayed in. We managed to stay in one of the few feature rooms, which was fully of character and wonderfully laid out. Our only grumble was after receiving a free cocktail token on our arrival, we decided to use it before we went out for the evening. It took us 30 minutes to get served in what looked like a quiet bar. The bartender who didn't stop making cocktails from the moment we walked in was the only person capable of making the drinks I think, although there was a waitress who seemingly had no idea we were there for a drink and kept on serving other people drinks before us. But the activities as suggested by Mr & Mrs Smith kept us busy for the whole weekend, and on the Sunday we went to Columbia Road flower markets, which were an amazing sight, and from there we spotted a small up-cycled furniture and antiques shop called 'B Southgate', which was right up our alley, and the perfect way to spend our lazy Sunday morning. Brilliant time, would definitely stay there again.

Wow – they've done such a fantastic job with the Town Hall Hotel. Its look is art deco meets All Saints. It's not in the most salubrious of locations (a Bethnal Green council estate) but I think it adds to the appeal. It is steps away from Shoreditch. Highly recommended for anyone who wants an edgy but luxurious option in London.

Unfortunately the hotel restaurant Viajantes was fully booked the night of our stay, so we booked online a nearby reastaurant/bar. This was such a lucky find. The 'Bistroteque' had a vibrant atmosphere and the food was brilliant. I had the best steak that I have ever had. Unassuming from the outside, but attractive and atmospheric inside, the venue has a Bar, Cabaret area, and restaurant. Highly recommended.
