Luxury holidays in Charleston
Charleston is the birthplace of the Civil War and, despite a tumultuous past, there is no better example of Antebellum architecture than its historic district of grand homes and houses of worship. Active historic preservation is evident at every turn, but this is not a city stuck entirely in the past. A long tradition of culinary creativity is seen in the award-winning chefs making a name for themselves here, the presence of galleries cropping up around town and first-rate boutiques, too.
When to go
Spring and fall are the most pleasant seasons for a visit. During the mild winters, the crowds thin out. July and August are the hottest (and most humid) months, so if you can't stand the heat, then stay out of Charleston at the height of summer.
