Surrounded by ancient angophoras and with views through silver-green eucalypts to Brisbane Waters, Pretty Beach House is a super-sophisticated private guesthouse in a magical setting, just 100 kilometres north of Sydney. Throw in all-inclusive hospitality, food from the nearby kitchen of Stefano Manfredi, and walks on the Central Coast's Bouddi Peninsula and you'll never want to leave.

Food and drink at Pretty Beach House

  • Hotel restaurant Vintage leather chairs, fine Belgian linen, chic Riedel glassware and a huge Arthur Boyd await you in the main dining area. Chef Stefano Manfredi’s menu is classic modern Italian – fresh, seasonal, elegant, hearty. Expect bread baked daily, local crayfish with garlic mayonnaise and veal shank with farro. Meals can be served à deux on your private deck, anywhere in the three-hectare grounds, or communally in the main house.
  • Dress code Well-pressed linens, outsize resin jewellery and designer clogs.
  • Top table Eating on the timber deck by the infinity pool offers dress-circle views.
  • Last orders Food is served all day 'casalinga' style, with a more formal evening dinner available, but staff will always try and accommodate the needs and whims of guests if earlier or later grazing is required.
  • Room service Fruit, biscotti, cakes, tarts and antipasto can be brought to your room 24 hours a day.
  • Hotel bar An intimate cocktail bar sits tucked away on a mezzanine level off the main living area, and has a white mini grand piano if you fancy tickling the ivories. There’s also a great wine cellar for quaffing the older stuff. We recommend the signature apéritif, with campari, gin, fresh lime and cranberry juice.

Our favourite rooms

All three pavilions are a knockout, but head to Hideaway for maximum privacy. Attached to the main house, Treetops is set over two floors, with a bathroom each for Mr and Mrs Smith, including a freestanding bath. All pavilions feature dressing rooms, fireplaces and king-size beds. Decor is a soothing mix of natural fabrics, recycled timbers, luxe furnishings and local art.

Packing tips

Penknife for whittling fallen angophora branches; jazz classics sheet music to play on the white mini-grand in the cocktail bar mezzanine.

Also

Take Pretty Beach’s skippered CABO 38 Express sports cruiser out for a spin on Brisbane Waters or seek out hidden, empty beaches where you can swim, snorkel and fish. Best of all, take a Manfredi picnic hamper. To stretch your pins, try a guided walk through the Bouddi Peninsula or stroll over to private Tallow Beach, home to a tempting surf break.
