It may look like a classic Alpine chalet from the outside, but Zannier Private Estates – Chalet Privé is a reindeer-motif-free zone inside. Instead, the cosy wood-panelled walls are joined by sleek contemporary lighting and squashy velvet sofas, with a full-service hotel next door attempting to lure you from your lofty lair. It’s a short stroll to Megève’s mediaeval streets, or you can get around by hot-air balloon, helicopter or sledge. Every type of skiing (regular, heli-, off-piste, Nordic) can be organised somewhere within the resort’s several kilometres of slopes, and there’s a massage room and hammam ready to soothe sore limbs at the end of every day. And if you’re not planning on skiing, there’s plenty to keep you entertained, from personal shoppers and tennis to child-friendly trips to reindeer farms and (if the name hasn’t put you off) free-falling over the Alps.
