Six-bedroom Wabisabi Alentejo, perched atop a hill north-east of Évora, is a traditional herdade updated with polished interiors: lime-washed walls and terracotta floors create a rustic backdrop for international antiques and a tapestry of textures, including bamboo ceiling-slats, marble bath tubs and woven rugs. Original windows have been replaced with picture frames that flaunt this hilltop stay’s out-in-the-wilds setting (views from the pool or roof terrace aren’t too shabby either). A cacti garden gives way to olive groves, pasture and forest, with walking trails from your door. Indoors or out – it’s tough to say which is more beautiful.
