Fairytale farmhouse

Corner of Chianti

Set between Florence, Pisa and Siena, Tuscan farmhouse Villa Ghizzano is set on the sprawling Castelfalfi Estate, which contains the village of the same name. Restored by local craftsmen, the villa and its original exposed-beam ceilings and honey-hued stone exterior have been spruced up and retained. French doors lead from the spacious indoor living area to the alfresco pergola, terraces, manicured gardens and glittering pool. Just beyond, you’ll find the estate’s 27-hole golf course, tennis courts, hiking and cycling trails, indulgent spa and three restaurants; a 20-minute drive will gets you to the mediaeval hilltop town of Volterra. Cook dinners in this family-friendly villa’s large Tuscan kitchen, or call a local chef for lessons in traditional techniques. After leisurely meals, settle around the fireplace with a bottle of local wine, or make your way out to the terrace and enjoy the lavender-scented evening breezes.
