Sleeping arrangements

  • The villa has 330sq m of indoor space and interiors echo traditional local style with white walls, rattan and wood pieces, and local handicrafts – say, a woollen hanging and hand-woven baskets and blankets.
  • The large open-plan living and dining room has latte-hued sofas, wicker, locally sourced statement pieces, a fireplace and a large wooden dining table. Window walls flood the space with light and the door leads out to the pool terrace.
  • The sleek white kitchen has all the state-of-the-art Gaggenau and Smeg equipment (fridge and wine fridge, oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, blender, juicer, toaster, glassware, tableware and cutlery) you need to rustle up hearty family meals.
  • A bar is personalised with your tipples of choice (let the hotel know what takes your fancy in advance).
  • The first of the three bright white suites has 32sq m of space and a soft king-size bed with luxurious linens. There’s a living area and an ensuite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower (on a hidden-from-view deck), a bath tub and twin sinks, plus direct access to the shared balcony.
  • The second 21sq m suite has a double bed (can be twinned on request) which overlooks the garden, and an ensuite bathroom with a hydrotherapy shower indoors and an alfresco shower on a private deck. And there’s direct access to the shared balcony.
  • The third 17sq m bedroom has a double bed (can be twinned on request), an ensuite bathroom with a shower and views of the pool.

Key kit

  • A personal butler
  • Central controls for the blinds, temperature and Domotic sound system
  • Molton Brown bath products
  • Pillow menu
  • Express laundry service (excluding dry-cleaning)
  • Daily breakfast, housekeeping and turndown service
  • Concierge
  • For an extra charge, a private chef, bar staff, waiters and personal shopper can be arranged

Poolside

  • The private swimming pool (50sq m) is a good size for groups and long enough for work-out laps. It’s flanked by two banks of sunloungers and there’s a 112sq m solarium, two lounging areas and a bar for socialising and alfresco dining.

Grounds

  • A shared Balcony accessed through the living room and two of the suites is set up for lazy hangouts and long lingering meals.
  • There’s more than 1,000sq m of private gardens for guests to frolic in with wildly diverse plant life. Olive and fig trees, strawberry and pomegranate plants, climbing jasmine and bougainvillea and more keep things colourful and fragrant.
  • One parking space is set in front of Vila Indigo’s gate and a second is at the main hotel.

Location

  • Beach lovers, rejoice: Fuseta Island’s soft white sands are just a 20-minute drive from Vila Monte Farm House; a shuttle service runs between the main hotel and the boat to the island every 15-20 minutes. The hotel’s boat is moored at Fuseta pier and will zip you right over to the beach of Barra Nova for a small fee that includes a towel and water.
  • Moncarapacho is the next closest town (borrow the hotel's bikes to get there), where there’s a small market and elegant whitewashed buildings. However, Faro is a little livelier, with museums suited to all ages, ruins from Roman times, and picturesque 17th- and 18th-century monuments in the Cidade Velha (Old Town). Plus the ravishing natural beauty of Parque Natural da Ria Formosa.
  • Faro Airport is 27km away; with at least two days’ notice, the hotel can organise transfers for €37 a person each way.
  • Trains from Lisbon and Oporto pull into Faro station; the hotel can organise transfers for €60 a person each way if requested at least two days before your train pulls into the station.
  • For those puttering around Portugal, there’s free parking at the hotel. You won’t need a car to enjoy the hotel and nearby beaches, though.
