Founded by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo, inheritors of the legendary Italian shoe dynasty, Villa Stabbi is as elegant and understated as its patrons: this centuries-old Tuscan casa pays homage to its ancient heritage with stone walls, tiled floors and beamed ceilings, offset with brightly hued cotton furnishings and updated with modern fixtures and fittings. There’s an expansive, intricately designed private garden, planted with oak trees and lavender bushes; and the heated infinity pool has panoramic views of the Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia. There’s plenty of room for your style-conscious clan here: the separate pool house and guest-house are both comfortably spacious, set away from the main villa. Nearby, the village of Borgo – now owned by the hotel Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco – has been authentically renovated with a spa, a fitness centre and two restaurants.

First Glance

  • This five-bedroom villa (524sq m) is spread over two floors. The traditionally Tuscan interiors (tiled floors, beamed ceilings and rustic, wooden furniture) lead out onto large gardens, including a private infinity pool.
  • On the ground floor in the main house is a spacious living room with a tiled floor and beamed ceiling; comfortable, red-patterned armchairs and sofas are grouped around a carved-wood Tuscan fireplace.
  • A stone archway from the living room leads through to the dining room, which has a large table, chairs and a wooden dresser.
  • The kitchen is a bright, cosy space, with wooden cabinets, a green-tiled splashback and state-of-the-art appliances. These include a steel cooker and grill, matching pots and pans, a microwave, crockery and cutlery. The kitchen also has a washing machine and a Nespresso coffee machine.
  • There’s also a powder room on the ground floor.
  • The fully-furnished pool house (50sq m) has an extra living room with a fireplace, a tiled floor and a beamed ceiling; a caramel-coloured sofa and red armchairs sit around a glass coffee table. Arch French windows lead out onto a shaded terrace.
  • Also in the pool house is a bathroom with a shower and Ferragamo bath products.
  • The Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco hotel is closed between 27 November and 12 April. Villas rented during this period will have a delivery of welcome groceries; two hours’ daily housekeeping; breakfast cooked in the villa (on request and for an extra charge); concierge service between 9am and 5pm; free newspaper app for Android and Apple devices; free WiFi and 24-hour security.
