Situated in the sleepy town of Borgo on the 5,000-acre Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco estate, imposing Villa Chiusa is the village’s former police station. Remodelled by the stylish Chiara and Massimo Ferragamo – inheritors of the Italian shoe dynasty – this one-time coppers’ casa has now been transformed into an elegantly understated, Tuscan-styled villa: a far cry from its utilitarian past as the polizia’s headquarters. Tiled floors, beamed ceilings and rustic wooden furniture nod to the estate’s centuries-old heritage and antiques lend a touch of grandeur. Style never compromises comfort: the feather-soft beds, oversized sofas and working fireplaces ensure there’s always somewhere cosy to snuggle up. On summer days, meander through the lavender-scented gardensdown to the heated infinity pool, hidden behind tall cypress trees; from the expansive terrace, there are views for miles across the Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia.

First Glance

  • This 388sq m, four-bedroom former police station is set over two floors, with an additional guesthouse and poolhouse; the interiors are decorated in classic Tuscan style. Outside, there’s a verdant garden and private pool.
  • On the ground floor, the living room has a tiled floor covered in a red-and-white-striped rug; two white sofas strewn with red cushions are arranged around a large coffee table, opposite a working fireplace. A red armchair – with a matching footstool – sits in the corner, and wooden bookcases filled with classic novels line the walls.
  • Next to the living room is a reading room, furnished with a long, cream-coloured sofa and a wide wooden dresser, atop which sits an LCD TV.
  • The kitchen, also on the ground floor, has a range cooker with a patterned-tile splashback, and cream-coloured, wooden cabinets with black-slate tops. High-quality cookware, cutlery and crockery are supplied. There’s also a microwave, dishwasher, sink, washing machine, kettle, grill and Nespresso coffee-maker.
  • A set of double doors leads from the kitchen to the dining room, which has a long wooden table and cream-coloured, padded chairs. Wooden dressers holding plates stand against the walls, and an archway leads through to the living room.
  • There are also two powder rooms on the ground floor, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower in the poolhouse.
  • The Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco hotel is closed between 27 November and 12 April. Villas rented during this period will have a delivery of welcome groceries; two hours’ daily housekeeping; breakfast cooked in the villa (on request and for an extra charge); concierge service between 9am and 5pm; free newspaper app for Android and Apple devices; free WiFi and 24-hour security.
