With views of the sprawling, Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia, five-bedroom former farmhouse Villa Biondi has all the trappings of a classic, Tuscan stay: rustic wooden furniture, beamed ceilings, polished-tile floors and rough, exposed-stone walls. Comfort and style go hand in hand at this elegant, Ferragamo-founded casa – the beds are marshmallow-soft and the alfresco sofas and armchairs are temptingly squashy, ideal for alfresco lazing in the tree-lined, lavender-scented garden. Mix up an Aperol spritz in the chrome-accented kitchen, and settle yourself on a padded, pergola-shaded sunlounger by the pool to watch the sun set on magical Montalcino.

First Glance

  • The largest villa on the estate, 726sq m Villa Biondi is set over two floors, plus a 33sq m poolhouse. The decor is traditionally Tuscan, with a nod to modern style evident in the sleek kitchen and heated pool.
  • On the ground floor in the main house is the living room, which has a beamed ceiling, tiled floor and working fireplace, around which are grouped several sofas and red-patterned armchairs. A wooden coffee table stacked with books and magazines sits in the centre of the room.
  • Next door to the living room is the dining room, which is decorated in shades of cream and has a long table surrounded with ample seating.
  • Through the dining room’s double doors, the kitchen has a range cooker (with a red-and-white-tiled splashback) and polished, wooden cabinets. High-quality cookware, cutlery and crockery are supplied. There’s also a microwave, dishwasher, sink, washing machine, kettle, grill and Nespresso coffee-maker.
  • There are also two powder rooms on the ground floor, plus a cosy reading room with sofas and armchairs, lined with bookcases.
  • In the bright and airy poolhouse, there’s a kitchenette and another bathroom with a shower and Ferragamo bath products.
  • The Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco hotel is closed between 27 November and 12 April. Villas rented during this period will have a delivery of welcome groceries; two hours’ daily housekeeping; breakfast cooked in the villa (on request and for an extra charge); concierge service between 9am and 5pm; free newspaper app for Android and Apple devices; free WiFi and 24-hour security. Winter activities on the estate (at an additional cost) include wine tasting and tours of the winery, and access to the golf club.
