Nafsika Estate

Style

Hyper-modern hideaway

Setting

Secluded Cycladic clifftop

Sleeps

At first glance, Nafsika Estate looks like the blueprint for a particularly swish Bond villain’s hideaway, carved into the side of a rocky, steep-drop cliff: stark white walls, sweeping terraces and a private helipad. However, you’d be wrong to think there’s anything shady about this sun-drenched spot on Santorini’s western coast, which overlooks the sparkling bay and iconic volcano. Have the private chef whip up a feast of grilled fish and Mediterranean vegetables on the super-size barbecue while you saunter out onto the raised terrace, which juts out like a finger over the sparkling Aegean. Dr No? More like Dr Yes Please…

First Glance

  • Situated in a quiet spot of Santorini’s caldera, the majestic, 350sq m Nafsika Estate has five bedrooms, a pool and a helipad, plus magnificent panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.
  • The villa’s set on two floors, connected by both indoor and outdoor stairs.
  • The main living room on the first floor has a domed ceiling and large windows overlooking the pool and the sea beyond. Combining classic Cycladic architecture with modern, minimalist design, the room is bright and airy, and decorated in neutral colours. A white sofa and a wooden armchair sit facing the windows, which open onto a terrace with a glass balustrade and outdoor seating.
  • The dining area is at the other end of the main living room; it has a wooden table that can seat up to 10 people, and there’s a window at one end with views of the sea.
  • Also on the first floor is the guests’ kitchen. There are untreated wooden cabinets; a small table for casual dining; and modern appliances including a hob and an oven.
  • On the ground floor, there’s a second, smaller living room, plus a second kitchen for the private chef’s use. This is kitted-out with up-to-date appliances, including a hob, Nespresso coffee-maker and built-in wine-cooling cabinet.
  • The villa also has two powder rooms.

  • On the ground floor are three additional double bedrooms (31sq m, 22sq m and 28sq m in size), all decorated with touches of blue and grey. Each room has a king-size bed with a white-painted wicker headboard, and an ensuite bathroom with a shower.
  • Lastly, there’s a twin bedroom (21sq m) on the ground floor, which has two single beds, plus an ensuite bathroom with a shower.

  • There are also two poolside changing rooms for privacy.

Grounds

  • Situated on a 4,000sq m plot on the edge of a rocky cliff, Nafsika Estate’s grounds are made up of a large, split-level terrace, a helipad and a private car park.
  • The terrace – located at the front of the villa – has an alfresco dining area shaded by a pergola, plus a gas and coal barbecue.
  • Next to the pool area is a raised stone platform, surrounded by a low wall, on which are two sunloungers with an unparalleled view of the sea below.
  • At the back of the villa is a private helipad and a covered car park for four cars.

Location

  • Perched on a rocky cliff edge above the Aegean Sea, Nafsika Estate is in the Megalochori area on the western coast of Santorini.
  • Santorini National Airport, on the eastern side of the island, is a 15-minute drive; rent a car through the villa’s concierge, or take advantage of the free transfer service.
  • The villa is 35 minutes by car from Oia and just under 10 minutes from Akrotiri, so it’s easy to explore the island: head to the former to see the bougainvillea-strewn Byzantine castle ruins and the Maritime Museum, and the latter for locally-run restaurants and independent shops.
  • Santorini’s beaches are known for their dark volcanic sand, and each attracts a different sort of sunbather. Go to Kamari for upscale glamour, Perissa for its party scene and Perivolas for a more low-key outing; all are 15 minutes’ drive away. For a dose of white sand, head for Aspri, which is 20 minutes away.
