Charming converted farm residence San Pietro Private Village House – a luxury casa on the Monteverdi Tuscany village estate – has weathered-stone walls and sleeps up to four guests. Cosiness comes first: plump sofas gather round a wood-burning fireplace in the living room and each bedroom – one lily-white, the other in soft pinks and warm reds – has a king-size, pencil-post bed dressed in hand-dyed linens. Beamed ceilings add a rustic air, but the smartly modernised kitchen has the essentials of Italian living: wine-glass-lined shelves, an espresso machine and chef-quality cookware. Pluck an Umberto Eco tome from the artisan-made shelves, repose on a hand-stitched leather recliner, and relax.
