Muri Antichi Private Village House’s 11th-century foundations might live up to it’s moniker – the name means ‘ancient walls’ – but this six-bedroom casa on the Monteverdi Tuscany estate is far from dated. Hot-shot Italian architects Ilaria and Giorgio Miani have transformed Muri Antichi into a rustic villa with a healthy dose of contemporary gloss. Glide down rustic, weathered-stone steps to sweat it out in the state-of-the-art basement gym; or whip up Tuscan feasts in the modern, steel kitchen. On lazy days, pour a local tipple from the dining room’s ‘wine cellar’ shelves, choose a classic novel from the well-stocked library, and curl up in front of the living room’s wood-burning stove. Sunny climes will call for alfresco barbecues in your private, flower-filled garden, with its panoramic views of the surrounding Val d’Orcia.
