Welgevonden – which means ‘well found’ in Afrikaans – is the name of the game (reserve) here. It’s on Welgevonden that you’ll find Mhondoro Villa, within the grounds of Mhondoro Safari Lodge, and the name is certainly apt. The villa’s a sublime example of the lodge’s perfectly integrated-with-the-environment aspirations: you can almost imagine it’s been here as long as the local fauna, particularly the especially friendly elephants (at the very least, they’re interested in that cool swimming pool on your terrace). There’s no sense of roughing it here, though: everything you might want before or after your expeditions is catered for in your private villa. And should you wish to regale others with tales of your safari adventures, just head to the main lodge and meet your neighbours.
