A quaint antiquity encompasses two-bedroom cottage Brewhouse, set in a small Wiltshire village where days feel as though they should pass in lazy step with roaring fires and meandering welly walks – and, thankfully, in this cosy country hideaway, they do. Within, a few steps beyond your private manicured gardens and cobblestone drive, you’re met with playful checked floors, wood-beamed ceilings, reclaimed furnishings with a classic feel and a brick-bordered fireplace set by a batch of freshly chopped kindling (no hard work required here). There’s a full kitchen for in-den dinners, but if you’d rather leave all that to the experts, head five minutes down the road for moreish meals (tomahawks and chateaubriands, Sunday roasts, dense puds) and home-brewed beers at the award-winning Three Daggers pub.

First Glance

  • This two-bedroom family-friendly cottage has redbrick exteriors and traditionally British interiors with restored wood furnishings, beamed ceilings, a stable-style front door and farmhouse-style features.
  • The open-plan ground floor houses a fully-equipped kitchen (including tea-making kit, a Nespresso coffee machine, induction hob, fridge, dishwasher and crockery) with dark teal-toned cabinets and a reclaimed oak dining table, and a living area with a wood-burning fireplace, sofa, two armchairs, board games and a TV.
  • Upstairs, the cottage’s two bedrooms have a cosy feel with farmhouse doors, vaulted ceilings, patterned upholstery and modern ensuite bathrooms.

Grounds

  • The cottage has a small private garden that shares a hedgerow with neighbouring Orchard House. The garden has chairs and a fire pit for balmy summer evenings.
  • There are plenty of walking trails around Edington and its surrounding hills, and a five-minute drive away there’s a local farm shop and pub bordered by a playground for little Smiths.
  • Orchard House shares a driveway with Orchard House, and has space for one cars.
  • Pups are welcome to join you, just let the cottage know in advance.
  • Please note that narrow staircases make the cottage difficult for those reduced mobility.

Location

  • Brewhouse is located in Edington, a small village northeast of Westbury in Wiltshire on the northern slope of Salisbury Plain.
  • From London, Edington is around a two-hour drive southwest along the M3 and A303, 25 minutes from Stonehenge.
  • To get to Edington on the train, take a Great Western Rail service towards Castle Cary and get off at Westbury. From there, it’s a 15-minute drive to Brewhouse. Taxis can be a little sparse at the station, so you can also take the 87 bus to Devizes and get off at the Old Schoolhouse – a few minutes walk from the cottage.
  • The Three Daggers pub is located a 20-minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the cottage, and next door you’ll also find their farm shop with local produce and all the essentials.
