Just off Sliema’s promenade, 1920s Aster House has been revamped with a modern-Maltese flair and art deco-ed dashes throughout. Traditional handmade tiling lines the hallways, where abstract artwork adorns accent walls and avant-garde furnishings rest under restored stained glass windows. Embracing upside-down living, the villa is split over three levels with a living room and three bedrooms on the lower levels and a kitchen upstairs. Not that you’ll be indoors all that much with your own private rooftop terrace and barbecue, or out and about, watching bobbing swimmers bathing in Balluta Bay and venturing through Valletta.

First Glance

  • This 240-square-metre terraced villa is located a few minutes walk from Sliema town centre, Balluta Bay and St Julian’s.
  • Inside, you’ll find restored Maltese detailing from the original house paired with modern amenities and sleek furnishings.
  • Locally painted artwork adorns the walls, arched windows are stained with light yellows and greens, and each of the bedrooms have a painted accent wall and an ensuite bathroom.
  • Large windows and doors enhance the villa’s natural light.
  • There’s also a large media room at the entrance of the villa, with a small workspace and printer, and a projector with a two-metre screen, Disney+ and Netflix.
  • In the centre of Aster House, there’s a grand staircase leading up to the kitchen and living area; there’s also a smaller spiral staircase at the back of the villa.
  • Upstairs, the modern kitchen is fully equipped with Bosch appliances (freezer, hob, oven, grill, toaster), plus a Nespresso machine and a popcorn-maker; at one end of the room, you’ll find a small living area with an adjoining two-seater terrace, at the other end large doors open out onto a patio with an alfresco dining area and steps leading to the rooftop terrace.
  • The fuchsia-flower-lined rooftop terrace has two sunloungers and overlooks Sliema’s cityscape.
  • Eco-built Aster House is also big on sustainability; all water is harvested, air-conditioning is solar-powered, you won’t find any single-use plastics, and smart screens are installed throughout to help monitor your environmental footprint (including water and power usage) during your stay. And, those with the smallest footprint can get discounts on future stays.
