Traditional teak-stilt pavilions surround a midnight-blue private pool at each Amanpuri Four-Bedroom Garden Villa, set among the coconut palms on a peninsula of idyllic Phuket. Inside, local art and antiques sit alongside Thai silks and tropical orchids – but don’t let the in-house luxury stop you exploring. The Amanpuri resort has Andaman Sea views and top-end cuisine to set tongues wagging, along with a menu of ancient and modern treatments at the signature Aman spa. The beach club offers all-action watersports all day, every day – and when you get back to base, the live-in chef will be working on tonight’s private dinner.

First Glance

  • Crisp whites and clean lines lend a contemporary feel to the interiors, but there’s plenty of old-world charm too, in the polished teak pillars, antique Thai ornaments and pretty potted orchids.
  • There are two open-sided pavilions, called salas, for lounging and dining in the garden.
  • There’s a fully-equipped kitchen, not that you’ll need it with a private chef on-hand.
  • There are indoor social spaces too: low-slung sofas in the living room, a light-filled dining room and a snug TV room.

Villa highlights

  • Live-in chef
  • Palm-shaded pool
  • Aman resort on tap

Sleeping arrangements

  • The four bedrooms are 86 square metres in size, with solid wood king-size beds and an ensuite with each.
  • The bathrooms feature wood-framed bath tubs with garden views, as well as showers.
  • Rooms can be configured with twin beds on request.

Key kit

  • Free WiFi
  • Several TVs
  • Stereo with amplifier and phone jack
  • Air-conditioning
  • Safe
  • Housekeeping and turn-down service daily
  • Aman bath products

Poolside

  • The garden-set pool is 16 metres long and has shallow and deep ends from 0.5 metres to 1.5 metres.
  • It’s unheated and tiled in cool dark blue, with six sunloungers by its side.

Grounds

  • Bedrooms open directly onto the central pool patio, which is bordered by tropical plants.
  • Charcoal barbecue.
  • Parking for two cars; if you need it, there’s more space in the main hotel car park.

Location

  • The villa is at the Amanpuri resort, on the shores of the Andaman Sea on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand.
  • Phuket International Airport is 17 kilometres away, or half an hour by car. The resort offers free transfers for all guests in high season (December to April), and for guests staying two nights or more throughout the rest of the year.
  • Most people go to Phuket to get away from civilization, but if you’re yearning for some semblance of a high street, head to Phuket town. It’s 40 minutes away by car, and has a quaint Old Town as well as all the urban basics.
  • Pansea Beach may as well be called Panacea beach – the stretch of powdery white sand is bordered by twinkling emerald water, and it’s private to Amanpuri guests.
  • Golfers should swing by one of the courses in the area – Blue Canyon Country Club is the pick of a very pretty bunch. Ask the hotel concierge for help with booking a tee-time.
  • Fine dine and catch live jazz at Siam Supper Club, or feast on buttery lobster at Baan Suan Layan.
