My love for boutique hotels runs deep; before working with Mr & Mrs Smith, I ran a 12-bedroom hotel and restaurant in Dorset. After that venture, I moved to Italy for a year and spent my free time exploring Europe. On my return to the UK I worked in the luxury retail sector for stylish swimwear brand Orlebar Brown before diving back into boutique hotels with Mr & Mrs Smith. I love being able to tap into the knowledge I’ve gathered through my previous work and travel experiences – pointing out the most scenic routes through the Alps and the best Tuscan villages to lunch in – to help Smith members build their dream holidays.

Travel Tips

Pack a power strip – one converter gives you five sockets, so there’s no fumbling about the hotel room trying to find a socket for each of your devices.

Nicholas'sdream destinations

  • Tuscany

    Photo of room

My idea of holiday bliss is sipping my way through the wines of Tuscany; accompanied by pastas, pastries and pizzas, of course. Try Borgo Pignano’s experimental tasting menu for a dinner you won’t soon forget.

  • Madrid

    Photo of room

I love that you can pop into almost any local restaurant and ask for the ‘workman's lunch’ – even some of the city’s top restaurants offer a quick midday meal for under €15.

  • Massachusetts

    Photo of room

This small US state packs a punch, with a major, history-rich city and swathes of forest, including Green Mountain National Park – one of my favourite parks in America. Spend a day exploring the trails before relaxing at Tourists in the Berkshires.

I wish I was...

hiking through Guadarrama National Park; it's an hour's drive north of Madrid and quite honestly, before I went, I had no idea it was even there. I’d recommend planning a stop off here before your stay in Madrid.
