Julia Andrei

Goldsmith Consultant

I’m passionate about languages and studied at the University of Bucharest before heading to London, where I rediscovered my love of travel in my five years of working for a long-haul operator. I’ve explored some of the world's most beautiful destinations (including the Maldives, Mauritius, the Seychelles and Sri Lanka), been to 21 countries and visited more than 50 Mr & Mrs Smith hotels; I use my experiences to meticulously help our GoldSmith members book far-flung trips of their own. Since becoming a mother, I love sharing travel with my little one, and consider myself a baby-friendly travel expert too.

    The Datai Langkawi

    Photo of room

It's in the heart of the rainforest facing a beautiful beach, and equally suited to escapes for couples, solo travellers and families. While there, dine on traditional Malaysian, authentic Thai, deliciously-spiced Indian and elegant Australian cuisine. My favourite dishes were the succulent grilled prawns and the bread-and-butter pudding.

    Borgo Egnazia

    Photo of room

They say there is no pizza like Italian pizza, but I would say there is no Italian pizza like Borgo Egnazia’s. I loved indulging in some of life’s simple pleasures – namely, eating the aforementioned pizza and drinking local vino – while my daughter was having so much fun at the kids club that she wanted to permanently relocate to Puglia.

    Blakes Hotel

    Photo of room

It's the original London boutique hotel: tucked away, yet very close to the centre. I like how each room at Blakes is uniquely decorated with pieces the original owner acquired on her travels. In my opinion, this is the sexiest hotel in London and the perfect place to stay for a special occasion.

Travel Tips

When travelling with my daughter I pack my carry-on bag with things to entertain her on the flight; favourite toys, colouring books and kids’ movies on my tablet are all a must. I also bring a magical little Mary Poppins-esque first-aid kit of headache and allergy medicines that fits into any handbag.

I wish I was in Maldives swimming with manta rays again, having crab tacos at the beach with at my feet in the sand or sipping cocktails while watching the most amazing colours in the sky at sunset.

  • Dubai

    Photo of room

I love the diversity of Dubai and the extremes it takes you to; one day you can go skiing indoors when it's 40 degrees outside, and the next you can ride a camel through the desert to a traditional bare-hands Bedouin dinner in a carpeted tent.

I loved touring around Penang's Chinatown, learning about its history and sampling delicious street food. For lush greenery and wildlife experiences, I recommend Langkawi; my favourite day there started with a boat tour through the mangroves and ended with me unwinding on the terrace of my luxurious rainforest villa.

I wish I was...

on top of Sigiriya Rock with my partner; it has one of the most breathtaking panoramic views I have ever experienced. After taking it all in, we would head back to nearby Kalundewa Retreat, my favourite ‘at one with nature’ Sri Lankan stay.
