Seductive and unforgettable, set high in the hills above Florence, Il Salviatino has all the atmosphere you’d expect from a lavish 15th-century palazzo turned boutique hotel. None of its rooms disappoint, but the spectactular Affresco Suite is the kind of place you can imagine silver-screen villains and vixens padding around in silken robes, admiring the 19th-century Bruschi frescoes from the vast chesterfield, and luxuriating in the remarkable carved sarcophagus bath tub.
Venice has been a byword for romance ever since its first gondolier picked up his oar and if there were ever a hotel that came with a rose between its teeth, it would be Ca Maria Adele, tucked away in Dorsoduro. This extra-special stay gradually unfolds like a well-kept secret: arriving on its private jetty is swoon-worthy enough, but Sala dei Mori – one of the hotel’s five concept rooms – continues the sexy and opulent theme. Its sultry, Moorish-themed interior includes dark glass chandeliers, rich fabrics and black flocked wallpapers: unashamedly sensuous.
One for the shoe fetishists (not like that), Portrait Suites is part of the Ferragamo empire (it’s even situated above the flagship store), and the effortlessly stylish interiors showcase sketches of his shoes and portaits of old-school Hollywood glamour girls. The hotel itself occupies an elegant building a boutique-bag-laden stroll from the Spanish Steps and the fashion thoroughfares of Vias Condotti, Borgognona and Frattina. The Deluxe Studio – Room 2 – is a contender for the title of Rome’s most glamorous, and features some of that famous Ferragamo attention to detail: handmade leather finishes and oriental woods. And, for the height of romance, head up to the rooftop terrace for swoon-inducing views of the Eternal City.
