Set on 17 acres of verdant Iberian hillside, Villa Melides is a striking stay designed by an award-winning Portugeuse architect, who incorporated contemporary and minimalist sensibilities with the historic design of the region’s homes. There are few neighbouring houses and views of the ocean in the distance are unobstructed – from the pool, too – a gift at sunset in particular. The villa’s layout means it’s ideal for families and groups, with plenty of communal areas and a five-acre garden there for the taking. Venture away from your hillside estate to discover the beaches of Melides and Aberta Nova, both within a short drive; the laid-back but stylish village of Comporta is 20 minutes away. Comporta, on Portugal’s central coast, is an antidote to the Algarve, filled with locals determined to maintain its singularity.
