Set amid the rolling, green valleys of the Castiglion del Bosco estate, Villa Casa del Fiume enjoys panoramic views of the Unesco-listed Val d’Orcia. A centuries-old farmhouse – founded and re-styled by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo, inheritors of the luxury Italian shoe label – this villa stays true to its ancient heritage: beamed ceilings, tiled floors and rough-stone walls add rustic charm. On sizzling summer days, stretch out by the private infinity pool before popping a few pizzas in the wood-firing pizza oven, ready to slice and savour on the pergola-shaded, lavender-scented terrace. When dark, winter evenings draw in, curl up in front of the living room fire with a glass of local wine, and whip up feasts of traditional antipasti in the cosy kitchen. All year round, the village of Borgo offers up delights from the historic church, to the barrel-filled winery.

First Glance

  • This spacious, 512sq m villa is comprised of the main, two-storey house, and a separate guesthouse (136sq m). Both are comfortably and traditionally decorated.
  • On the ground floor of the main house is the living room, a bright and airy space with a beamed ceiling, tiled floor and working fireplace. A large sofa and several patterned armchairs are grouped around a wooden coffee table; a bookshelf filled with novels stands against one wall.
  • The kitchen (also on the ground floor) has a range cooker with a patterned-tile splashback and cream-coloured, wooden cabinets. High-quality cookware, cutlery and crockery are supplied. There’s also a microwave, dishwasher, sink, washing machine, kettle, grill and Nespresso coffee-maker.
  • Double doors from the kitchen lead through to the mint-green dining room, with its long wooden table and red-and-green-striped chairs. A wooden sideboard stands at the edge of the room; a glass-fronted cabinet sits in the corner.
  • There’s also a bathroom on the ground floor.
  • The large guesthouse has a white-painted living room with French windows that lead directly out onto the terrace. A sofa and several winged armchairs are grouped around a glass coffee-table, facing the fireplace.
  • The guesthouse also has a small kitchenette, and two extra bathrooms.
  • The Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco hotel is closed between 27 November and 12 April. Villas rented during this period will have a delivery of welcome groceries; two hours’ daily housekeeping; breakfast cooked in the villa (on request and for an extra charge); concierge service between 9am and 5pm; free newspaper app for Android and Apple devices; free WiFi and 24-hour security.
