First-class post

Quiet corner of Kruger

How’s this for seclusion? Pel’s Post is an exclusive-use, eco-friendly satellite lodge of the already remote Outpost in a quiet northern corner of Kruger National Park. The private bush getaway has room for eight guests across four stylish standalone spaces, built along clean symmetrical lines from wood and canvas. The camp centres around your own private bar and viewing platform, with astonishing panoramas of the Luvuvhu River and the surrounding wilderness. A private guide will whisk you away on game drives or walking safaris, and your personal chef will prepare you hearty bush fare (and international favourites) at mealtimes. Just one thing: there’s little reception out here, so start composing that ‘Out of Office’ message now…

First Glance

  • The four open-plan living spaces are angled towards the wilderness, with stilts and wooden walkways employed for minimal impact on the environment, and all connected to the central lodge, bar and pool area.
  • The design is tasteful and modern, and importantly, the site’s careful water management, energy-efficient sun-orientation and a natural cooling system prove it to be an exceptionally forward-thinking safari lodge.
  • You’ll have your own personal chef who’ll create hampers for picnics under the baobabs and appetising safari lunches.
  • Dinners such as pork belly and broccoli and almond soup are served either at the Outpost or at tables surrounding the pool.

Villa highlights

  • Perfectly quiet for wildlife spotting
  • Cutting-edge design
  • Breath-snatching views of the wilderness

Sleeping arrangements

  • These unique, open-plan spaces come with breathtaking views, a king-size bed with goose-down duvets and an outdoor shower as standard.
  • All come with remote-controlled weather screens.
  • Put your feet up on a daybed in your lounge or on your private terrace.
  • Bathrooms feature a double basin, free-standing bath and shower (though once you’ve seen the outdoor shower, we doubt this one’ll get much use).

  • Mosquito nets and repellent.
  • Desk.
  • Ceiling fan.
  • Free tea and coffee.
  • Digital safe.
  • Bathrobes.
  • Umbrella.
  • Hairdryer.

  • There’s a lap pool built into the decking of the central lodge area, which is surrounded by daybeds perfect for catching rays or spying the wildlife below.

  • The camp presides over a dramatic stretch of the Luvuvhu River, with baobab, knob-thorn and magic guarri trees dotting the vast landscape beyond.
  • Bring your binoculars: this is prime bird-spotting territory.

  • The closest park entrance to Pel’s Post is the Pafuri Gate, Kruger’s most northern.
  • Once you’ve crossed the bridge over the Luvuvhu River, you’ll drive for 18km before reaching the stone-built sign for the Outpost.
  • At the sign, turn left and travel 4km along a dirt road until you reach the Outpost, the parent hotel of Pel’s Post.
