On the grounds of a house once owned by Sir Robert Peel, Hampton Manor Cottage is a redbrick bolthole with a Victorian façade, characterful interiors and rustic surroundings. A stone’s throw from Sir Robert’s gothic manor house, the cottage backs onto the estate’s walled garden and cuts a cosy figure with its gabled roof, mullioned windows and working chimney. Inside, the design scheme mingles mid-century furnishings with décor inspired by the arts and crafts movement, including patterned wallpaper with striking William Morris motifs. There’s a cosy lounge with a wood-burning stove and a Scandi-esque kitchen with an Aga, making it easy to cook up a feast for the whole group. If you’d rather sample the cooking of seasoned professionals, stroll over to the main hotel, home to the acclaimed Peel’s restaurant.
