Setting

Adriatic islet

Stop the clock: you’ve arrived at car-free, care-free Zori Timeless, where you’re about to shrug off the day-to-day and settle into this pleasingly private pocket of Dalmatia. The hotel is a compact, luxury hideaway in Palmižana, a small resort on the island of Sveti Klement. Guests stay in just four minimalist, burnt-orange dwellings finished in local stone and marble. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls lead out to private terraces, with a pool, a Jacuzzi, or – in some cases – both. The Zori Timeless fine-dining restaurant is right next door, proffering its flavoursome Mediterranean dishes and a private sea-view terrace for residents. Swim, snorkel, dive, hike, snooze – whatever you choose, take your sweet time.

Need to know

Rooms

Zori Timeless has just four villa residences: three with one bedroom and one with two bedrooms

Check–Out

11am, but flexible, subject to availability. Earliest check-in, 3pm.

More details

Rates include an à la carte breakfast and dinner (excluding drinks).

Also

Because of the access to the island and the terrain when you arrive, Zori Timeless is not accessible for wheelchairs.

Hotel closed

The hotel closes from 1 November to 15 March.

At the hotel

Free WiFi, beach bags, open-air workout space, charged laundry service, gardens planted with palms, flowers and herbs, and direct access to a public beach. In rooms: TV, sound-system, air-conditioning, tea- and coffee-making kit, Illy coffee, Ronnefeldt teas, free bottled water, bathrobes, and Asprey bath products.

Our favourite rooms

If you’ve got young children with you, the crème de la crème at Zori Timeless has got to be the Infinity Residence, with its extra bedroom and bathroom, large living space and vast seaward-stretching terrace. But for adult-only stays, you might as well nab the coveted Cloud Residence and make that gorgeous rooftop pool all your own (at least for a short while).

Poolside

Three of the four villas have their own private pools. The fourth doesn’t have a pool but does have a Jacuzzi with a bay view. There’s no communal swimming pool, but all guests have free access to the rock and sand beach, which you can reach via steps down from the restaurant terrace.

Packing tips

If you’re particularly attractive to insects in warm climates, stick a good supply of eco-friendly mosquito-repellent in your case.

Also

There’s no spa on site, but you can book in-room treatments, such as massages, peels, facials and mani-pedis, plus hairdressing and make-up if you want to dazzle your fellow diners on the restaurant terrace.

Pet‐friendly

Your pet can stay with you free of charge, and bowls, blankets, beds and welcome snacks are provided. See more pet-friendly hotels in Hvar.

Children

Children are welcome to stay at Zori Timeless. There are some board games and toys available, plus extra beds where required, but there’s no crèche or babysitting service. The two-bed residence is better suited to young families than the one-bed versions.

Sustainability efforts

Solar panels gather energy to help power Zori Timeless and you’ll find LED bulbs throughout, plus energy-conserving light sensors and timers in the gardens. There’s a waste-water treatment plant onsite, which provides purified water to keep the gardens looking lush. Grease waste from the kitchens is converted into biodiesel fuel. And the villa buildings have been designed with local materials that require minimum energy for heating or cooling.

Food and Drink

Top Table

The seafront tables on the VIP residents’ terrace are the pick of the bunch, slightly removed from the main restaurant and with soaring views across the bay.

Dress Code

Smart out-for-dinner holiday basics: you can’t go wrong with an artfully wrinkled white shirt or flowing kaftan-style top.

Hotel restaurant

Breakfast (from 8am), lunch and dinner are all served at the elegant Zori Timeless restaurant, where chef Siniša Jevrosimov brings diners the best of modern Croatian cuisine, packed with Mediterranean flavour. There’s an interior dining room with wood floors, curving arches and full-length windows out to the bay, and a seafront terrace planted with mature palms and hung with lanterns. There’s also a residents-only terrace if you prefer to dine slightly apart. Try dishes such as tuna tartare with almonds, truffle mayonnaise, sesame oil and rice bread, or linguine with shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes and smoked olives, followed by a bitter orange and lemon tart, or maybe a chocolate soufflé.

Hotel bar

You'll find the Zori Timeless bar in the restaurant, where a signature cocktail is created for each of the four villas, plus a full menu of classic and signature drinks.

Last orders

Breakfast is from 8.30am to 10.30am, the restaurant is then open from noon to 10pm for lunch and dinner.

Room service

You can order to your room or terrace (and why wouldn’t you, with all that private outdoor space at your disposal?) from the dedicated room service menu, available daily from noon to 10pm.

Worth getting out of bed for

Zori Timeless has the rare benefit of being in a completely car-free destination. All around you’ll see a barely touched island landscape of limestone and low pine forest, bursting with headily scented rosemary. The bay is dotted with sailboats and yachts – you can join them on the water with a boat trip or a range of watersports, or spend a morning diving, swimming or fishing.

Local restaurants

Restaurant Gariful in Hvar is good for fish and fine wines with sunset views – try lobster carpaccio, confit monkfish risotto or grilled wagyu salad.

Local bars

Boat hop to a neighbouring islet for sushi at Carpe Diem Beach, also a good spot for an after-hours beach party. You can go a little further to bustling Hvar for brunch followed by cocktails at sister venue Carpe Diem Bar.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from this scenic island hotel in Dalmatia, a full account of their restful break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Zori Timeless in Palmižana…

Gliding past neat sailboats and stepping onto the Zori Timeless pier, there’s a real sense of pressing pause. Owners Iva and Renato Tomlinovi? clearly favour discretion in design, with residences all but hidden behind low stone walls designed to mimic the natural features of this little cluster of islands. Tall palms line the Vinogradiš?e Bay side of the property and lush vegetation rises up behind it all. A warm greeting and a short walk between graceful palms take you into the heart of this discreet and petite luxury enclave. Grab your welcome drink and proceed to your generously sized standalone residence, with plain wooden panels, custom-made furniture that blends rather than pops, and unadorned expanses of Croatian stone. Sliding glass doors lead out onto a generous private terrace, where Adriatic views beckon. You could while away most of your stay here, but don’t miss out on that oh-so-close beach and the turquoise waters beyond.
