Setting

Coniferous cove

Say ahoy, matey to Yazz Collective, the best kind of beach club: one that’s only accessible by boat. In its own Turquoise Coast corner in Turkey, the hotel is not all sunloungers and sundowners, since the architect decided to make it an exhibition space, too (his many talents include owning an Istanbul gallery). The lush landscaping stars perfectly placed palm trees and almost comically hanging thatch. It wouldn’t be a beach club without DJ sets – there are sunset parties every weekend – and the food is definitely worth dropping anchor for (just ask the nautical neighbours).

More details

Rates usually include breakfast.

Also

If you thought the interiors were on the artistic side, that’s because of the assorted artworks and installations on loan from the architect’s Istanbul gallery.

Hotel closed

The beach club lifts its shutters mid-April and stays open until the end of October.

At the hotel

Free WiFi throughout, kids’ lounge and games room, PlayStation corner, outdoor gym, yoga, boutique and art gallery. In rooms: Nespresso coffee machine, air-conditioning, hair straighteners, yoga mat and local bath products.

Our favourite rooms

For more exotic ablutions than usual, book a room with an outdoor shower and be at one with nature (and the local fauna) – we especially love B2, which has a stargazing-ready terrace. It’s perfectly placed for minimal front-door-to-shore step counts, too.

Spa

The two treatment rooms have two beds each, along with an open-air shower and changing area. The spa’s signature treatment is the aggression-free Herbal Punch massage and there are two Balinese therapists in residence for expert Eastern aromatherapy. It’s open from 9am until 8pm.

Packing tips

This is one place where boat shoes will actually be acceptable, so if you have a thing for the not-always-in-fashion footwear, go crazy.

Also

The arrivals by boat transfer mean the hotel is not easily accessible for wheelchair users.

Pet‐friendly

There are two rooms ready for seafaring canine Smiths – petite pooches weighing less than 11kg can stay for free, but they won’t be able to join in the fun at the restaurants. Bowls will be provided. See more pet-friendly hotels in Fethiye.

Children

The secluded shore is more popular with couples, but all ages are welcome. The kids’ lounge is open daily from 10am to 6pm for four- to 12-year-olds (under-fours are welcome with parents in tow). Activities include beading, painting and dancing.

Sustainability efforts

The team is fully committed to caring for local sea life (and encourages anyone who drops anchor in its waters to do the same), composting, recycling and reusing waste-water; all lighting is LED, too.

Food and Drink

Top Table

Settle on to a shaded sofa or sun-worship from dawn till dusk on one of the double day-beds stacked up in tiers on the decking.

Dress Code

All at sea (in a good way).

Hotel restaurant

Breakfast spans the virtuous (whole boards of garden-grown produce) to the less so (grilled cheese and sourdough fritters). Nautical neighbours will be pleased to know that there’s space for 10 boats at the pontoon and straight-to-ship catering is available. Dishes at the Mediterranean-mad restaurant include burrata, braised artichokes and beetroots baked in the wood-fired oven – all of which are sourced seasonally and locally. The seafood selection is vast, with a crudo bar starring smoked local mackerel with avocado cream and tuna tartare. Since you’ll be competing with local yachties hoping to disembark for dinner, it’s advisable to make evening reservations when you arrive.

Hotel bar

The beach bar will service all of your chilli-margarita needs – staff will also craft an aptly named Grog Time for your first drink of the day when you’re ready. The lounge bar in the gardens doles out refreshing home-made lemonade, iced teas, kombucha and coffees. Yazz gets vibrant at the weekends with DJ sets – there are sundown sessions (5pm to 7pm) and DJ performances (10pm to 1am) every Friday and Saturday night.

Last orders

Breakfast is served from 8am until noon. Lunch hours are from noon until 6pm; dinner is served from 7pm until 10.45pm. The bars call time at midnight. Drinks are served at the beach between 9am and 7pm, with food available from noon to 6pm.

Room service

Snacks and meals can be ordered to your room between 8am and 10.30pm, with drinks available until midnight.

You need a transfer to reach this hotel. For approximate costs, see location information

The beach club is in a remote cove along south-western Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, close to the port town of Fethiye and accessible only by boat.

Planes

The nearest airport is Dalaman, a little over an hour away by car. Hotel transfers can be arranged for up to five people; it's €93 per car one-way.

Automobiles

The hotel will be able to help you park your car on dry land and find where to board its free boats. Sailing time is less than 10 minutes.

Other

The hotel has boats that can transport you across to its cove – or you can reach the Yazz Collective deck by your own vessel, rented near the airport at Gocek marina. Guests arriving by sea can drop anchor at the hotel’s dock; its co-ordinates are 36°36.800’ N – 29°3.200' E.

Worth getting out of bed for

The hotel’s private bay has two areas, including one for families with children. Activities to tempt you away from your sunlounger include treks around the bay, cruises along the coast, watersports or just plain old swims. If that doesn’t sound active enough, sign up for a yoga or Pilates class, or book in with a personal trainer. You’ll also be able to learn to paint at the hotel’s very own art club. Or head up to the port city of Fethiye to see its impressive natural harbour and ancient tombs carved into the cliffs.

Local restaurants

Unless you want to set sail for supper, chances are you’ll be staying put for all forms of sustenance.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this boutique beach club in Turkey and unpacked their bikinis and boat shoes, a full account of their shoreside stay will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Yazz Collective in Fethiye…

All the best beaches are accessible only from the water, so you know you’re in for a sandy treat at Yazz Collective, a concealed cove on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast that requires guests to set sail to reach it. And if you cruise over to this beach club’s secluded shores, you’ll be glad you made the voyage. The beach is helpfully decorated with orange-cushioned sunloungers, double day-beds on elevated decking and shaded verandas with long bar counters. The rooms are set throughout the peaceful gardens, each with billowy drapery, marble showers, potted plants and wooden floors, along with drooping thatch on the roofs borrowed from Cousin It’s head. Artistic additions include hanging hammered-copper lamps, round wicker mirrors and carved wooden faces for your very own miniature Easter Island-style series. Weekend DJ sets will tempt you down to the shore – and if you’ve chartered a boat for the day, you can cruise around the coast before heading back to the hotel’s pontoon, where they’ll gladly bring you food and drinks. You won’t want to leave, but at least here the journey’s part of the destination.
