Slopeside hotel Ultima CourchevelBelvédère combines the privacy of a residence with the extras of a luxury ski hotel, including butlers, private chefs and a Swiss Perfection spa. The cluster of four and five-bedroom residences stands in Belvédère, a slopeside stretch of Courchevel between La Rosière Forest and the opulent enclave of 1850. In each one, the hallmarks of Alpine architecture – pitched roofs, timber walls and exposed beams – are combined with materials that wouldn’t be out of place on a yacht, including black marble, nubuck leather and Baccarat crystal. Along with your not-so-humble abode, you’ll also have a world-class spa and two swimming pools at your disposal.

Our favourite rooms
There are just two sizes of residence, with four and five bedrooms respectively. They’re all designed and furnished to the same indulgent standards, featuring sporting Alpine – pitched roofs, exposed beams and timber panelling – along with marble bathrooms, nubuck leather upholstery and bronze-wrapped stoves. Every residence has oversized windows, charming wooden balconies and sweeping views of the tree-clad valley and surrounding mountains. It's tough to call the best, but we think the views from Residence 1 just about take the prize.
Poolside
There are two. The heated outdoor pool (in the South Resort spa) commands serene valley views; the indoor pool (in the North Resort spa) looks onto a pine-studded stretch of mountainside.
Spa
Both the spas (one in the North Resort and one in the South Resort) have collaborated with cutting-edge skincare brand Swiss Perfection, recognised as the first cosmetic brand to apply vegetal cellular extraction technology to their products. Put simply, this means their products have powerful anti-aging and skin regenerative qualities. Alongside customised facials and advanced skincare treatments, you can book in for àpres-ski and hot-stone massages, tea-infused body wraps, pedicures and aromatherapy treatments. There’s even a programme for children. Beyond the treatment rooms, both spas also have a hammam and gym; the North Resort spa also has a sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi, and the South Resort spa has a sensory shower. Personal trainers, pilates and yoga teachers, guided meditation classes and reiki sessions are all available on request. The spas open from 9am to 9pm, with treatments available between 10am and 8pm.

Children
All ages are welcome. Children can borrow games and sledges, and your private chef can customise all meals to suit picky eaters. Babysitting is available from €100 an hour; two weeks notice is needed.
There’s no restaurant as your private chef will be manning all the meals. But, if you’re heading with a big group, you’re welcome to book out the hotel’s private dining room (subject to availability).

Ultima Courchevel is in Belvédère, an exclusive area of the resort between Courchevel 1850 and La Rosière Forest.
Planes
The closest international airports are Lyon and Geneva, both a two-hour drive from the hotel. Private transfers can be arranged from Geneva from €690.
Trains
The closest station is Moutiers, a half-hour drive away. It's served by SNCF services from Caen, Bayonne, Lille, Milan and more. Transfers to and from the station can be arranged from €150 each way.
Automobiles
Ultima’s drivers can take you anywhere in the resort, so you don't need a car of your own. If you do want to bring one, there’s free valet parking at both resorts for fully serviced guests.
Other
For the quintessential Courchevel arrival, charter a helicopter to drop you at Courchevel Altiport, a 15-minute drive from the hotel.
Worth getting out of bed for
Like bring first in line for the ski lifts? Ultima understands the need for efficiency. Your ski pass, ski rental and ski instructor (if you want one) will all be arranged when you arrive at your residence, leaving you free as a bird on your first morning. You’ll have plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast, spa session or dip in the pools without cutting into valuable slope time. On your return, book in for an après ski massage or a Swiss Perfection skin treatment, the ultimate antidote to mountain-stressed skin.
Beyond the hotel, the greatest attraction is of course Les 3 Vallees, the world’s largest ski area. A single pass gives you access to 600km of runs spread between seven ski resorts. If you don’t plan to stray far (or prefer to spend your afternoons on the terrace of an après bar), you’ll be pleased to hear that Ultima is on the side of the valley that's home to Courchevel’s sunniest slopes. For all activities beyond skiing, the concierge should be your first port of call. They’ll create a bespoke itinereary that can include hot-air-balloon flights, paragliding, husky sledding and wine tastings. They can even arrange for a helicopter to fly you to a Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy or Switzerland, returning home in time for sundowners.
Local restaurants
Slopeside favourite Bagatelle brings the Cote d'Azur to the Alps, serving French Mediterranean cuisine against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. The dining room has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, and the terrasse has a lively atmosphere on sunny days. Start with a sharing platter of king crab legs, follow with the sea urchin and truffle linguine or the Black Angus tenderloin. For àpres snacks or a casual dinner, try Bistro Le C in Moriond (Courchevel 1650). One of the more reasonably-priced spots in town (by Courchevel standards, anyway), this laid-back bistro turns out excellent meat dishes like stuffed hare with foie gras, red wine jus, sweet potato gnocchi and grated chestnuts. For show stopping fine-dining, you can do no better than Le 1947 at Cheval Blanc, Courchevel's only restaurant carrying three Michelin stars. The hotel looks fairly traditional from the outside, but the restaurant, named for the maison’s most famous vintage, is anything but. The dining room – a space-age vision of smooth curves and monochromatic furniture – wouldn't look out of place in a Stanley Kubrick film. It’s all intentional, of course, as this is dining at its theatrical best. Book well in advance.
Local bars
Le 8611, the cocktail bar at Le K2 Palace, is a cosy den with mountain views, live music and a top-drawer mixologist at the helm. If you’re partial to a cigar, check out Le K2’s smoking lounge, which has a humidor filled with fine tobacco and an open cellar stocked with top-shelf whisky, cognac and rum.
