Stays at Lechlade Lodge, on the Lakes by Yoo Cotswolds estate, are a hazy midsummer dream of dining on a sun-kissed deck with glittering views, kayaking across the water and exploring the green surrounds of this classic country break destination. The barn-wood-clad villa has been primped and preened into a breathtakingly elegant home by the Yoo studio (a stable for star designer Philippe Starck and his like). A neutral palette and window walls ensure it’s light and bright, and opulent touches – dabs of velvet; a button-back seat here, a chandelier or two there – make these cabins more regal than rugged.
The Lakes by Yoo’s Barnhouse is a modern vision of a traditional Cotswolds cottage, with honey-hued stone walls and windows stretching to the vaulted roof. There’s a private pool, dining terraces and full kitchen, and Kate Moss has given interiors a touch of supermodel style: a mirrored four-poster, velvet couches, silk-woven carpets, Sixties-style chandeliers and other decadent touches set the scene for lavish parties. However, La Moss has made it feel like a real home: she’s hung vintage kimonos in the master bathroom and pieces by Damien Hirst in the hall; and guests can flick through her pick of retro records (Grace Jones, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd…) and play dress up in hand-picked statement pieces.
The Cotswolds may be a long way from the coast, but the luxurious Lakeside Villa on the Lakes By Yoo estate has ice-cream hues, shell motifs and polka dots and stripes that have us daydreaming about the seaside. A terrace overhangs peaceful Warren’s Cross lake and there’s space for alfresco meals with charming countryside views. Indoors, there’s ample space for socialising and four white-walled, individually designed bedrooms, one with bunk-beds for family breaks, and a penthouse-level solarium suite with 360-degree views.
The Huntsman Lakehouse, a three-storey luxury villa in the Cotswolds, topped with a solarium suite, shows off the artistic mettle of the Yoo Design Studio’s creatives. There’s ample country cosiness, with armchairs by the fire, tactile fabrics and barnwood furnishings, but charcoals enhanced with splashes of acid yellow and dainty knits matched with industrial lamps and teal-lacquered finishes add modernity. An adorably dressed children’s room makes this family friendly, and terraces overlook tranquil Huntsman Lake.
