Setting

Fairway to heaven

Practically a chip shot from its regal namesake links, Portrush Adelphi has golfers grinning before they’ve even unpacked their clubs — but this coastal charmer has more in its bag than birdies and bunkers. Rooms are dressed in deep greens, sea-blues and tartans, the Red Sail Room pairs clubhouse polish with yacht-deck views, and there’s a cheerful town on your doorstep for surf sessions, castle ruins and whiskey drams. Whether you’re teeing off or time-outing, Adelphi always comes in above par.

Top Table

Bag the bay window table — it’s the sweet spot where sunset views, sea breezes and people-watching all come served with your supper.

Dress Code

Swap your spikes for loafers and add a splash of nautical chic to your après-golf get-up.

Hotel restaurant

The Red Sail Room blends the polish of a smart golfing clubhouse with the breezy elegance of a yacht’s dining room — oak panelling, maroon banquettes and nautical touches all framed by bay‑window views out to the ever-changing Atlantic horizon. Its menu follows suit, pairing local seafood with Italian flair (Northern Irish mussels bathed in nduja, mascarpone and cider sauce, for example), making it as tempting for post-round feasts as it is for a long, languid dinner by the sea. On weekends, the restaurant leans into tradition, serving generous Sunday lunches and indulgent afternoon teas.

Hotel bar

The Red Sail Room bar is the perfect place to toast a winning round — or console a lost one — over something strong and well mixed.

Last orders

Breakfast is served 7am to 10.30am; Sunday lunch is from 12.30pm to 3pm; afternoon tea (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from noon to 3pm, and dinner (daily) from 5pm to 9pm.

United Kingdom

Portrush Adelphi sits right on Main Street in the heart of its namesake seaside town, just a pebble’s throw from sandy beaches and the legendary Royal Portrush Golf Club.

Planes

Most international arrivals land in Belfast, where the team can arrange private transfers (at an extra cost) for the hour’s drive to Portrush Adelphi. If you’re coming from within the UK, Derry Airport trims the journey to around 45 minutes.

Trains

There are daily direct trains to Coleraine from Portrush Station, with weekend services also running to Belfast and Derry — and from the station, it’s just a seven-minute stroll to the hotel.

Automobiles

A car isn’t strictly necessary, though it’s handy if you’re planning to explore the Causeway Coastal Route. There’s no on-site parking at the hotel, so you’ll need to make use of nearby street spaces or the pay and display at East Strand Car Park.

Worth getting out of bed for

Sure, golf may be the headline act here — with Royal Portrush practically on the doorstep and Portstewart, Bushfoot, Castlerock, Ballyliffin and even Royal County Down within easy striking distance — but there’s plenty beyond the fairways to keep days full. Pick up a board and wetsuit at Troggs Surf Shop and head straight for the waves at West Strand, or let their surf school show you how it’s done before drying off on a wander through Whiterocks Coastal Park

Causeway Coasteering means leaping, scrambling and swimming your way through mystical sea caves, while inland adventures lead to the basalt wonder of the Giant’s Causeway, the storybook trees of the Dark Hedges, and the cliff-hugging drama of the Gobbins Path. And when you’re ready to slow the pace, dedicate a rainy afternoon to The Arcadia Art Gallery or the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Dunluce Castle

Local restaurants

When the sea breeze calls for something scenic, The Tides delivers both — fresh, flavourful dishes and panoramic coastal views that only a spot on the Causeway Coast can offer. Neptune & Prawn brings a laidback buzz to Portrush dining, with punchy Asian-inspired small plates and a playful cocktail list. If you’ve just finished a round, head to The White Pheasant Bar & Grill for wood-fired pizzas in a cosy, pub-style setting.

Local cafés

On Portrush’s South Pier, Babushka Kitchen Café serves up top‑notch specialty coffee, home-baked treats and artisan snacks in an artsy spot that feels like the town’s seafront kitchen.

Local bars

Pop into the Harbour Bar, a Portrush institution where perfectly poured pints, a stellar gin selection, and harbour views make it a firm favourite with locals. A little further along the coast, the Bushmills Distillery invites you to step into 400 years of whiskey-making heritage — and, of course, to taste the good stuff straight from the source.

Anonymous review

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this nicely teed-up hotel in Portrush and unpacked their golf clubs and cable knits, a full account of their windswept break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Portrush Adelphi in Northern Ireland…

Portrush Adelphi is a bit of a hole-in-one for golfers who like to bunker (ahem, hunker) down with a side of seaside charm. Right on Main Street, you’re a quick putt from Royal Portrush and equally close to sandy strolls, surf shops and whiskey stops. Inside, things feel part-clubhouse, part-nautical hideaway, with the Red Sail Room serving hearty Italian dishes against a backdrop of bay-window views and just-polished banquettes. The bar keeps the post-golf chatter flowing, while little extras — club storage, rental sets, even shipping your irons door-to-door — make life easy for those who’d rather travel light.

And if golf isn’t your game, the Causeway Coast has plenty to keep you busy: castles, cliff-paths, coasteering and more beaches than you can shake a wedge at. In short, the Adelphi plays to all strengths — whether you’re chasing birdies, sea air or a second round at the bar.
