Named after the townhouse’s original owner Lady Mary Calverley, this spacious room sits in the hotel’s attic. There’s an open-plan bedroom and bathroom, with exposed wooden beams and gabled ceilings. The bedroom has a king-size bed, a decorative fireplace and a large TV at the foot of the bed. The modern bathroom has a walk-in, glass-walled shower and his ’n’ hers rolltop bath tubs set side by side. All rooms have a DVD player, Nespresso coffee maker, Roberts radio, iPod dock, minibar and Plantation toiletries.

The two bedrooms in this restored Victorian cottage can be booked separately, or together as a two-bedroom suite. There’s a nod to Chester’s past in this split-level suite, named after architect John Douglas who designed the Eastgate clock in the centre of town. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel, set by the River Dee is an apartment decorated in inimitable Oddfellows style, with wallpaper emblazoned with suitcases and hot-air-balloon flights, Vivienne Westwood tartan and more. Set in a quiet courtyard, this space includes a sitting room and dining room and a fully equipped kitchen; the apartments are all self-catering.
