Our favourite rooms

The connecting Ocean and Prestige Junior Suites are the best option for families that like to stay connected; although their beachside setting makes them a popular choice for all. Whether it’s your honeymoon or just another romantic retreat, the double bath tubs and private sea-view balconies of the Sunset Junior Suites, will help set the mood for a loved-up getaway.

There are five swimming pools for you to take a dip in; there’s an over-eights-only infinity pool in the spa and one has a children’s section.

The Lux Me spa has a long list of treatments that covers every possible need: fight the long flight with a jet-lag massage, detox and hydrate with a nourishing body wrap, or enjoy a romantic couple’s massage under the stars. Kids (over-eights) can enjoy some down time too with a cocoa body wrap and scrub, or a mini massage. They also offer tinting and waxing, manicures and pedicures, hair and make-up and henna – pampering head to toe. While waiting for your treatment, or to keep the relaxation coming afterwards, take a seat in the hammam or sauna, and let your cares float away in the whirlpool and infinity pool.

Food and Drink

Top Table

We never turn down a chance to dine alfresco, especially while staying on a tropical island: East and the Kitchen overlook the Indian Ocean and the Bar boasts blue-lagoon views.

Dress Code

Take advantage of the Beach’s and the Kitchen’s casual dress code to show off your most stylish beach cover-ups, but dress to impress for a more formal dinner at East.

Hotel restaurant

The Beach serves some of the best pizzas this side of Napoli and the grilled sacré chien (red snapper) is a must at least once during your stay. They also offer a range of healthy salads and light lunches, including low-carb burgers. The Kitchen offers international fare to suit every taste; enjoy Greek salads, Italian paninis, stir-fried beef with black pepper sauce, or Mauritian delicacies such as calamari rougaille (calamari cooked in a tomato sauce with ginger and garlic) or bol renversé (a fast-fried chicken with young corn, mushrooms and soya sauce). Wander along the beach to Vik’s Fisherman’s Shack for just-caught sea urchins and rum arrangé, as you soak up friendly Vik’s age-old wisdom. After lunch, stop by ICI for a scoop or two of homemade ice cream. Nestled between Le Morne mountain and the Indian Ocean, the views at Head to East are second only to the delicious Thai fare. This zero-waste kitchen is forward-thinking when it comes to Thai flavours, and equally forward-thinking in their menu – largely because they simply don't have one. Instead, the waiter will take a note of your preferred tastes while the chef whips up dishes personalised to your palate. As for the setting, time dust off that little black dress – its sleek dark interiors are perfect for date night.

Hotel bar

There are three bars around the hotel. The Bar and Maison Lux has all your drinks sorted, dawn to dusk. Stop by the Milanese-inspired Maison in the morning for coffee and pastries in a tropical, pistachio green setting; enjoy an island-inspired snack or a light meal on the shady veranda at lunchtime; and at night, sip fruity cocktails while listening to live music. Midday mojitos and margaritas at Oasis and Ilot are our new favourite way to hydrate; these poolside bars are ideally set so you never need to leave the water simply swim up to the bar and while staying cool in the pool.

Last orders

Breakfast at The Kitchen is 7am–10.30am. The Kitchen and The Beach serve lunch from noon to 3pm. Dinner at all restaurants is 7pm-10pm. Maison Lux opens from 8am-11pm, Oasis and llot from 10am-6pm while the Bar is open from 10am 'til midnight.

Room service

Room service is available 24 hours a day; for an easygoing start, simply hang a checked breakfast menu on your door by 3am and you’ll find an array of hot and cold foods waiting for you come morning. International dishes are available throughout the day.

Worth getting out of bed for

Explore Mauritius above and below its deep-blue waterline. The hotel offers an array of watersports: windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, snorkelling and waterskiing are all included in your booking, but if you want to splash out a little, for an extra cost the hotel also offers catamaran cruises, speedboat trips to nearby islands, fishing excursions and scuba diving for both beginners and experts. Wake early for a chance to spot and swim with wild dolphins, or discover the vibrantly coloured tropical fish and coral reefs closer to the coast in one of the hotel’s subscooters (a two-man mini-submarine). The hike up Le Morne mountain can be quite challenging, but you’ll be in the safe hands of an expert guide and the panoramic view from the top makes the ascent well worth the effort. Discover the island’s rich hinterland on mountain bikes or horseback on a trek through the jungle; alternatively a sunset ride through the surf is a movie-worthy end to a romantic day. The nearby Heritage, Tamarina and Paradis golf clubs have first-class fairways and to drive fore ocean views. Or why not take to the air and explore Mauritius by helicopter or seaplane.

Local restaurants

This sheltered peninsula is lined with luxury hotels and oceanfront restaurants. Pop next door to Dinarobin’s Umami restaurant for pan-Asian cuisine on the poolside terrace. Slightly further up the coast, Paradis has four restaurants to choose from; get a taste for local flavours at La Ravanne, or book a table at the open-air Blue Marlin restaurant to sample freshly caught fish. On the other side of Lux Le Morne, the St Regis resort has more than its fair share of fine-dining options: Simply India serves authentic spicy curries and tandoori specialities; set in a pagoda surrounded by still waters, Floating Market serves an array of Asian delicacies; and for fresh fish and straight-off-the-grill meats, the Boathouse Bar & Grill is our first stop.

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this all-inclusive beachside hotel in Mauritius and unpacked their flip flops and kaftans, a full account of their island break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside L Le Morne in Mauritius…

Tennis courts, a watersports centre, spa and white sandy beaches – you name it luxury island resort, Lux Le Morne has it. Protected from the trade winds by the towering Le Morne mountain, the hotel has an exceptionally calm beach for Mauritius – even water babies still finding their fins will be able to splash out on this shoreline. The crystal-clear Indian Ocean promises excellent snorkelling and dolphin-spotting trips on the hotel’s glass-bottomed boat. After working your way through the long list of watersports on offer, return to dry land for a round of tennis or a yoga class or two – with temperatures rarely dipping below 20 degrees, this is the place to practice your sun salutation pose. You’ll have more than your fair share of dining options at the hotel; from thin and crispy pizzas by the pool, to Creole cuisine and a fine-dining Thai restaurant, you’ll be able to explore the international dining scene without ever having to stray far from Mauritius’ white-sand beaches.
