Kahanda Kanda

The Garden Suite (70sq m), boasting an 18th-century-style, four-poster, king-size bed, contains period furniture to match the aesthetic. The spacious room remains true to its name, with guests able to enjoy a secluded, stone-walled shower outdoors, with leafy plants amongst it all. A wide veranda enables guests to spend quality time relaxing and enjoying the views. All of the air-conditioned suites contain an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

The two single, four-poster beds provided in the Tea Suite (70sq m) can be modified to become a king-size bed if so desired. Like the Garden Suite, the Tea Suite has high ceilings and a lot of space to unwind – whether within the suite, or out on the balcony. The style of the room is antique colonial, with dark timber floors and an outdoor shower. All of the air-conditioned suites come with an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

The slightly larger Auraliya Suite (80sq m) overlooks the Galle tea estate, containing a library full of books. For extra elegance, the king-size four-poster bed is made of teak, and just like the other suites at Kahanda Kanda, is fitted with luxurious cotton bedlinen. Like most of the rooms, the Auraliya Suite has an outdoor shower. All of the air-conditioned suites come with an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

One of the larger rooms available, the Mango Suite (80sq m) contains a library and indoor shower, as well as a teak king-size four-poster bed. In addition to the extra space, the Mango Suite also offers a wide banquette, which can double up as another bed. The large, private veranda overlooks the tea estate, and the furniture – as with the other available suits – is a mix of antique and contemporary. All of the air-conditioned suites feature an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

Nestled amongst a vibrant green forest, the Tamarind Suite (80sq m) is the other room available with an indoor shower. The room contains a wrought-iron, king-size, four-poster bed, a wide banquette for lounging upon, library full of books and private balcony. All of the air-conditioned suites feature an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

This 100sq m villa is accessed via a shaded pathway and has a private, infinity-edged plunge pool with views of the tea estate and jungle. The villa is decorated in shades of pale blue, with Indian prints and bespoke furnishings; there entrance lobby has a long banquette that can be used as a second bed. The large bedroom has a canopied four-poster bed and three full length French windows that look out over the veranda, plunge pool and tea estate; in the ensuite bathroom there’s a large walk-in shower and a separate bath tub. There’s also a second alfresco shower, air-conditioning, an iPod dock, free WiFi and a minibar.

Set in a private walled garden, this spacious villa is painted in traditional yellow lime wash and has a large private terrace and an infinity pool. Inside there’s an inviting lounge area, a king-size bed and four sets of French windows with views of the pool and garden. The ensuite bathroom has a bath tub, walk-in shower and direct access to a greenery flanked alfresco shower. There’s also air-conditioning, an iPod dock, free WiFi and a minibar.

Accessed by flight of steps from the Living Pavilion, Nelum Suite (80sq m) has a king-size wrought-iron four-poster bed, a library, an indoor shower and a large, private veranda overlooking Koggala lake. In addition to the extra space, the Nelum Suite also has a wide banquette, which can double up as another bed. The furniture is a mix of antique and contemporary styles. The suite features an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

This is the largest suite on offer, spanning 100sq m, and a model of exorbitance. There is only one Peacock Suite, so guests will have to be lucky to snatch it up. With an ebony king-size four-poster bed, library and sensational views over the tea-estate and Koggala Lake, this room also provides complete privacy. (Though guests may be treated to visits from wild peacocks.) All of the air-conditioned suites feature an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

This 70sq m suite has copious amounts of natural light and overlooks the gardens on the estate. It has a private plunge pool for soaks and sunbathing in the privacy of the suite’s romantic garden. Like many of the Kahanda Kanda suites, it also has an outdoor shower and a king-size four-poster bed. All of the air-conditioned suites feature an iPod dock, free WiFi and minibar fridge.

Accessed by flight of steps from the Living Pavilion, Hibiscus Suite (80sq m) has a king-size wrought-iron four-poster bed, a library, an indoor shower and a large, private veranda overlooking Koggala lake. The one and only Dubu Suite (85sq m) provides guests with privacy, tranquility and adventure. The antique Javanese 'Joglo'-style building with an elaborately carved wooden ceiling and woven palm walls contains a private swimming pool and satellite TV. The two large bathrooms – outdoor shower and bathtub – accompany a large wrap-around veranda and an elegant teak, king-size, sleigh bed.
