Setting

Italia autentica

Elizabeth Hotel Lifestyle Milan flirts in multiple ways: its contemporary art collection seduces the eyes; its delicious breakfasts tantalise the taste buds; there’s even a unique hotel fragrance, courtesy of Laura Tonatto. Rooms are decorated with covetable furniture and furnishings in pretty pastels and boiled-sweet hues, plus a mini gallery’s worth of contemporary art, including illustrations, prints and photographs. Your bank manager would approve of the price tag; not even the fussiest estate agent could sniff at the prime city-centre locale.

Address
Elizabeth Lifestyle Hotel Milan
Corso Italia, 11/a
Milan

Italy

The hotel has a prime city-centre location in the peaceful Carrobbio neighbourhood, a five-minute walk from the Duomo and many other cultural calling cards.

Planes

Most major airlines fly to Linate Airport, which is seven kilometres away (a half-hour drive).

Trains

Central Station is just 15 minutes from the hotel by car, with services connecting to other Italian cities.

Automobiles

If you’re coming with wheels, the closest public parking spaces are 700 metres from the hotel (a hefty €25 daily); drop your luggage off first. Milan’s historic city centre is pleasingly compact and the trains are excellent, so you might be better off sans vehicle.

Other

Hop on the Metro from the train station – and jump off at the Missori stop on the yellow line, going towards San Donato.

Worth getting out of bed for

Kick back and relax at boutique basecamp – perhaps with a drink from the honesty bar in the reception area, where you can also befriend staff and fellow guests if you’re feeling sociable. Rewind several centuries at Castello Sforzesco on Piazza Castello, which is one of Europe’s largest citadels. Following an extensive rebuild in the late 19th century, it now houses several of the city's museums and art collections. Continue your Italianate education at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology on Via San Vittore. Sprawling across a vast space (around 40,000sq m to be precise), this museum in downtown Milan charts developments in science and technology from Leonardo’s time onwards.. Flex your plastic at Milan’s landmark Galleria Vittorio Emanuele: Italy’s most iconic shopping mall, housed within a four-story double arcade in the city centre. Beg, borrow or steal tickets to Teatro alla Scala, the city’s opulent red-and-gold opera house, where some of the world’s best sopranos, tenors, contraltos, etc, have raised their voices to the heavens.

Local restaurants

Grab a coffee from the view-toting rooftop terrace at La Rinascente department store, which reckons it’s the best in the world (you’ll need a caffeinated pit stop after all that shopping.) Londoners may already have visited Princi in Oxford Circus; now try its original Milanese incarnation, with outposts at Via Speronari, Piazza Venticinque Aprile, Via Ponte Vetero and more.

Local bars

Take your chicest swimwear, gymwear and sunnies with you to Ceresio 7, Pool Restaurant on Via Ceresio. This fashion-pack hangout spans a gym, two pools, two lounges and a ravishing restaurant.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from this budget-boutique hotel in Milan and unpacked their panettone and postcards, a full account of their Italian city break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Elizabeth Lifestyle Hotel Milan

Elizabeth has just enough extras to make you feel spoiled while you’re here – pretty courtyard, interesting art collection, delicious breakfasts, helpful receptionists, an honesty bar and colour-pop rooms – but not so many that you fail to ever venture out. It’s a lesson in balance and judgement. Factor in that wallet-friendly price tag too, and you’ll leave feeling like you got more bagna cauda for your buck. Of course, Milan has more than enough attractions and distractions of its own to keep you busy, and Elizabeth’s prime city-centre postcode puts many of the city’s cultural and culinary calling cards on your doorstep. Eat, drink and make merry, like a Milanese.
